Irehi Empire

Structure

The smallest unit of the empire is the household. The head of each household, usually the oldest member, answers to the chief of the village. A village is made up of 100-500 households, and 500 villages make up a risalo, more or less equivalent to a county, which is ruled by an berisa. Twenty risalu make up a province, each of which is ruled by a duke, who is usually a member of the emperor's extended family. All of the ten dukes then answer directly to the emperor/empress.

Judicial System

Within the empire, each village has its own official courthouse, used for settling civil disputes and minor local crimes. The courts work on an inquisitional system, where instead of a lawyer questioning witnesses, a panel of three judges do the questioning. Each risalo and province has a higher court that deals with cases that escalate to their level. A citizen, for a fee, can escalate the case to the next tier if they are dissatisfied with the outcome in the lower courts. However, a serious enough crime can warrant an immediate escalation to the risalo or even the provincial level. The highest court in the empire is the Steolea, usually translated as "Royal/King Seat." The court consists of ten judges instead of the usual three, and includes either the Emperor or Empress as the head judge. The royal judge has two votes instead of one, both to signify their authority and to prevent a tie.

Religion

While all religions are theoretically legal in the Irehi Empire, the empire was built by and is ruled by Trepolum, and the royal family has always been (at least outwardly) Trepolum. As the royal family drives its legitimacy from being the descendants of Stenai, the head of the Trepoli pantheon, they have a vested interest in keeping the amount of believers in the Empire as high as possible. However, they also fear driving out non-believers due to the bad galactic publicity it would bring them, especially in light of the crimes committed by their enemy, the People's Republic of Nechiparhi .

Agriculture & Industry

The empire maintains that each household should be self-sufficient in terms of food, both so that there isn't as much need to transport perishable food around the empire, and also so that each household can pay the food tithe (a third of whatever they grow). Each household is allocated around 1500 square feet for both housing and growing space.
