Taldor's upper government was wiped out almost completely in just one evening of terror.

A few days a year, all senators are in town to celebrate the Exaltation of a commoner to nobility and to celebrate in the festivities in Oppara, Taldor.   In an effort to consolidate power before his passing, Grand Prince Stavian III took advantage of this gathering and turned on the Taldor senate, murdering many of the attending senators while while the lucky ones managed to flee.   This event along with Grand Prince Stavian III 's disappearance crippled Taldor sending it to the edge of civil war. As the senate didn't have enough members to appoint a new Grand Prince, and there was not a grand Prince to appoint new senators.
