Field Report from a Ryvir Hunter

]Report drafted by senior investigator Helvar Agilmn; filed on the 23rd day of Maizhesne, 1123 P.Z.   Our investigation on Ryvir case no. 637, codename: toad cage began after branch office investigators had received myriad reports concerning the murder of factory workers near the Erulan Plateau. Initial supposition reasoned that the murders had been carried out by footpads: primarily interested in theft, with murder as an unfortunate side-effect. This theory lost credibility when it was confirmed that cause of death was identical for all victims: a single needle-like puncture in the neck of the victims. Shelving - but not utterly dismissing - the footpad theory, our department pursued case no. 637 under the assumption that they were an Aipek candidate. Given the recent influx of Searkig morsels to the Erulan plateau, we conducted our investigation under the presumption that the culprit possessed a morsel of Searkig until evidence suggested otherwise.   Intending to draw out the culprit based on past attack patterns, our branch opted for a sting operation. Investigator Unkto proposed that a lesser known junior investigators make themselves appear as a vulnerable target by walking along the same ramps and roadways where previous attacks had occurred. Fellow investigators would remain hidden nearby and step in as soon as threat of attack became apparent. Cadet Lellum volunteered for this role after self-identifying as the best candidate.   The first three nights of our operation were uneventful, though no other murders were reported during that interval of time. On the fourth night, Cadet Lellum was in transit between the fourth and third tier of the plateau. En route, she was stopped by a woman wearing a worn rain cloak. According to the cadet, the woman appeared disoriented and seemed to be in need of directions. Thankfully, Cadet Lellum was not lulled into any sense of security appropriately engaged with the woman from a safe distance. Following a brief interaction, the woman parted ways with the cadet and left for her purported destination. Following Cadet Lellum's suspicion, our sting operation pivoted into a tailing operation of this potential suspect. Following her across the circumference of the third tier, our suspicions were heightened when the woman made no concerted attempt to head toward her suggested destination. As the woman returned to our initial engagement point, our tracking team reconfigured to an encirclement formation so that the suspect could not flee, should a direct engagement prove necessary.   Within the next ten minutes, investigators observed an interaction between the suspect and a seemingly inebriated man. As she drew the man in closer, investigators noted hostile intent as the woman covertly withdrew a thin needle-like blade from her sleeve. Seeking the strongest confirmation possible without sacrificing the innocent bystander, investigators intervened the moment before the suspect attacked the man. Springing from their observation positions and tackling both parties to the ground, investigators immediately identified themselves and demanded compliance from both parties. The drunken man complied immediately and surrendered himself, but the woman panicked and stabbed Investigator Kockerinh in the side with her weapon. Unable to remove the weapon while grappling with Kockerinh, she discarded her weapon and leapt off the side of the tier, fleeing downward. Investigators pursued immediately.   Through the use of coordinated maneuvers, investigators quickly cornered the woman at a street leading onto the fourth tier's main commercial thoroughfare. Investigators demanded her immediate surrender, but such pleas were not answered or even acknowledged by the woman. The woman pulled back her right sleeve, revealing a sigil of Searkig on her palm. The Bands observed on her wrist suggested that she was just beyond the third ring; the fac that this number is inconsistent with the number of reported victims on the plateau is a concerning matter that warrants deeper investigation.   Fearing her abdication into a Ryvir, Investigator Unkto immediately fired his crossbow at the suspect. The bolt struck her in the forearm, but did not deal lethal damage. The sigil around her hand then exploded with light; her body contorted as her ribs elongated and burst forth from her swelling body rending her cloak to shreds. The woman's face and other features were entirely swallowed by the bubbling mass of flesh. Fellow investigators joined Unkto in firing bolts at the Aipek chrysalis, but such efforts were wasted as the flesh mass absorbed and amalgamated the quarrels into its form.   Thankfully, the woman had not ingested any morsel of Searkig relegating her to Ryvir status rather than Aipek. As her transformation stabilized, The Ryvir's torso had swelled to be larger than a full human wingspan. Thin, gangly arms and legs extended out from the torso: each enhanced with an extra set of elbow and knee joints. The Ryvir's rib cage had split open; they stuck outward, but met back together like a set of rotated jaws. The rib teeth protected a head that dangled upside down within the hollow of the Ryvir's torso like the uvula of one's mouth. Investigators initially estimated that the Ryvir would have low mobility due to to its thin limbs and bulky torso. Such estimates were rapidly revised as the Ryvir leapt with spring-like agility from its seated position. The momentum of its leap carried it across the street and it landed atop Investigator Unkto, trapping him within its ribcage jaws. Before others could react, the Ryvir's jaws slammed inwards and bisected Investigator Unkto. Please note that proper compensation and condolencese have already been sent to his family.   Vengeful investigators quickly fired reloaded bolts into the Ryvir and managed to puncture it in four different places. The effect was substantial, but not enough so as the Ryvir then leapt up and away from the street. Reaching a vertical height of nearly 10 veiters, the Ryvir slammed down on the rooftop of the nearby trading house, giving way entirely, forcing the Ryvir to fall into its uppermost floor. Investigators rushed to re-establish containment, but were unsuccessful in their efforts. While additional attacks made against the creature during pursuit were confirmed, the Ryvir ulatimately eluded investigators and remains at large. The lack of follow-up reports suggest that the Ryvir left the Plateau and now roams somewhere in the plains beyond. We humbly request back-up from head office so that we may subjugate this threat before it can claim more victims or elevate its ring status further.
