Draconia

The Origin of Draconia is more the stuff of legend then actual fact and truth. The citizens are told these legends as if they are truth. The legends speak of a great Golden Dragon who flew from the west during the battle of the Gods. In the mighty claws and talons of this majestic dragon, it carried a large cache of liberated draconian eggs. When it reached Arlanis it found a large island capable of sustaining these whelps. It set out to raise the first clutch of eggs, attracting several actual dragons to the land. But this Dragon known as Holfkim suffered from a great and terrible disease which was slowly eating away its strength. When Holfkim passed, A Dragonborn warlord known as Ar’kosh came forward speaking of how Holfkim had seen a great world, ruled by the Dragonborn people where their order, their style of life and culture towered over all else. Ar’kosh spoke to the people on how Holfkim appointed him as the Harbinger of this new world order. And so Ar’kosh set to bring the good works of Holfkim.

Public Agenda

Conquest and to defeat the mainlanders once and for all.

History

Ar’kosh built up the island of Yol’Drakon, driving out its earlier inhabitants who were mostly humans and small pockets of dwarves. In the way Ar’kosh had learned best, through warfare. While the dwarves and humans put up a valiant fight, they were horribly outnumbered and just not as organized as the growing realm of Ar’kosh. Once the Island was fully under the control of Ar’kosh, he decided the country needed a name and needed to recognize him as its leader. Ar’kosh named it Draconia…land of the Dragonborn. To appease some of the more fanatical believers of Holfkim, he named the capital Yol’Holfkim.(seat of fire). This would become a great city of the Dragonborn. Ar’kosh was not universally approved of though. There was a substantial portion of the islands population which believed that one of the actual Dragons who had arrived on the Island should lead the Draconian people. Ar’kosh feared the loss of his power, but knew he could not let it be known that he would get his hands dirty to keep power. Ar’kosh secretly invited two well-known dragon hunters under the alias of a revenge driven noble who had lost his family to this Dragon. These hunters slew the Dragon which he marked for death. Having been successful in remaining blameless Ar’kosh then claimed the people of the mainland of Arlanis wanted to destroy any remnants of Holfkim. He fanned the fires of an angry populace and now was unopposed. He proclaimed himself and his descendants to be known as the Draconi, the keepers and protectors of the Draconian way of life. Ar’kosh in his time waged many wars with the peoples of Arlanis, making very few friends in the process. Territory was gained and lost in a cycle and loop which seemed to accomplish little to nothing other than death and destruction. Ar’kosh waged a total of 24 wars in his time. He would’ve waged more if it were not for the unfortunate end he met to the hands of the nascent state of Orden. Whose fleet and military capabilities were doubted to be a threat by the aging Ar’kosh. His flagship was sunk in a brilliant plan devised by Edward Kingsburry, the recently proclaimed Lord Admiral of Orden. With the death of Ar’kosh, his system would be put to the test, and it was effective and worked to continue his ‘grand plan’. His son Varkal Ar’koshan took the reins and built up the nation rather than engaging in endless warfare. He built up his powerbase, and began to introduce state supported propaganda, making him and his future children have an idolized status within the state. His rule was categorized by growth, setting up of infrastructure, building up of settlements, and the further fleshing out of the political structure. At his death he was given the title, the Great. His heirs and successors varied in levels of success for generations to come. Some even built alliances which waxed and waned while only the ‘friendship’ with Greyhollow has remained true. Eight generations of his family later. Draconia is ruled by High Draconis Parthal Ar’Koshan. His reign has been one of brutal warfare in the Baystolian Peninsula, and naval warfare against the Nation of Lightbay. The war against Baystol had been rather successful in capturing several cities and land in the region, but both armies have exhausted themselves and despite Parthal’s charismatic nature his armies are exhausted and have failed to cross the Westmirrin River and the Baystolian forces on the other side. Lightbay has been less effective in its attempted attack on the heartland of Draconia and the fleets have been held back by the ever growing Draconian Armada. Peace talks are undergoing with both nations
