The Fountain

The Fountain stood in the capital of Norr, Forrm. This kiln appeared in the center of the main public garden in the upper-class area at the time. The residents nearby heard a crash during the night, and when some looked from their windows to center of the park, the awning was destroyed. What stood there was a kiln twice the size, with a warm rose metal spewing upwards and arcing to the corners of it’s almost octagonal shape. The metal had captured the streetlights and glowed warmly with shimmers of metallic shine.   Kilns were not unheard of by this point, and none of the cities in norr had one so the locals were abuzz with excitement. The king was notified and it was declared that he would be the first to lie in it’s metal as surely the king would become ferrus. at the height of the afternoon the following day, crows from the area drew close to watch their monarch become gifted by the gods. As he took off his ceremonial robe, and lay on his back, the crowd waited with abaited breath.   The king lay there for what seemed like ten minutes, with nothing appearing to happen. the crows murmured, some notes of sneering could be heard. the king emerged, quiet, with a slight fury and bellowed to the crowd to form a line. his royal advisors and other diplomats had the turn first to try their luck, but only the royal architect was gifted. when the crowds took their line to try, it seemed that very few were gifted. they could not see why so few were gifted.   The king had drafted ruling that only people from the upper area could visit and try to receive the gift as those of low status would definitely not be worthy, with many diplomats whispering snide remarks that the commoners would use it to steal their possessions and goods. And the fountain remained there for years, bestowing so few gifts. Children had received more gifts than their parents but it seemed to favour the creative. The fountain was perhaps created by harmal, they mused.   After the incident of the bath kiln surfaced, it took a while for the upper class to relinquish their control over something that was given, not owned by them. As generations passed, and the city invested in the poorer areas, the spread of trade and creativity allowed the city to flourish and steer from it’s old ways. The gifts became more plentiful, with the city becoming the abode of rose and indigo metals. Although not everyone gifted was a good person, there was a noticeable increase in gifted as the old diplomats and monarchy were replaced overtime by more compassionate leaders.
