Jizon the Fourth Character in Seram | World Anvil

Jizon the Fourth (Jee zon)

Jizon Darwenn was the eldest son of King Marsys’ 3 children, named after his great grand father. Born in 200 PrK, the Wistymian Empire was not faring well at the time, both financially and publically. His Father although revered publically, was not kind to his children. Marsys pitted them against their siblings all his life, everything was made a competition for his favour. Although Jizon was the eldest, his father would observe everything he did and reference his "potential" future as king. It was not uncommon for Marsys to say that a younger sibling would handle a situation better as ruler. The quest for approval would make Jizon a cold, calculating person.   Jizon was a talented musician as a teen, playing the woodpipe and stringboard. He had went to a private royal academy to learn the arts and music, as most noble children did. At the age of 16, he fell off of his horse on a hunting trip with his father and younger brother Hollan and shattered his right hand, ending his ability to play the stringboard. His right hand never fully recovered and had little dexterity in it's fingers. His father did not hide his disappointment at his son thereafter, seeing his accident as a failure of a successor. The Wistymian people were losing their faith in the monarchy as Jizon grew, the lower classes were rebelling against the taxes and laws placed by his father. Jizon had never left the upper circle of the city, the plights and needs of the outer city residents alien to him.
Marsys passed away in mysterious circumstances at the end of 242 PsK and after the month of mourning as custom in Wistym, Jizon took the throne at 43. The coronation day was held on one of the wettest days of the year, which may have been an omen of what was to come later in his life. Jizon was bethrothed to a Norrn Noblewoman but she had rescinded her intentions after meeting the king in person, citing it due to a clash of personalities. The public had cited it due to Jizon's inability to be a pleasant person. It was definitely a noticeable situation for a middle aged king to be unwed and without an heir, it was also a very good topic for a lot of jokes of the commoners.
Jizon focused on improving the lives of the upperclass. Funds gained through taxation was put into improving the lives of the upper circle, through entertainment, construction, and expansion. To quell outcry from the residents of Prastyl’s lower circle, he promised new jobs in construction at various cities, increasing housing to reduce cramped living situations. Against his advisors wishes, he made these promises without acknowledging the low resources owned by the capital. A region with financial instability spending money to expand and improve is not a recipe for success. Jizon’s stubborness started many ventures for clay and wood. Wood was pretty bountiful in the region and the frames for new walls and houses stood empty in the outer circles. It was the second year of the ghost towns of wooden framed wall-leas houses when dissent in the public started again. Jizon could not source clay to help fill the frames. The sheer walls that were popular in the upper circle was not going to happen in the new areas of the capital.
Jizon’s idea to start stealing clay from native yeodr land was not a popular one in his court. The Yeodrians were a peaceful people and Jizon sought to take advantage of that. Near the Wistymian border, the land was wetter near the rivers. Jizon had stationed outposts for workers to take clay from the river beds and former-river areas. It was several months before the Yeodrians had noticed. Their concerns were civil at first, assuming it was a misunderstanding, but Jizons defiant claims that that land was Wistymian land did not sit right with the natives. Their region has always been where the ghiti trees grew. Angered by the Yeodrians refusal to give him the land he wanted and the pressure from his own people to finish his expansion project, he did the unthinkable. Jizon started the burning, forming the current nation of Brinden through fire and death.
