Glathir, Goddess of Ice Character in Seram | World Anvil

Glathir, Goddess of Ice (Glah-theer)

Glathir, the cold one, The wife of Waek, she rules over the north and south where winter is long. Depending on the time of year, she can extend her rule to parts further and give them a taste of the cold. Glistening beauty in the colour of the snow she walks on.   Travellers in the cold regions of Norr and Sudarn pray to her for their trips, hoping that she will not extend her grip on them. They ask that she make any lake hardened so they may not plunge into icy waters. Travellers who lose their way and pass on in frozen forests or mountains are held by Glathir until Niwon arrives to escort them to the next life.   Sudarn natives will write runes into the snow to communicate with the goddess, hoping that their food is preserved through her harsh cold. Farmers ask that she allow Krothus to help their crops grow. Most villages have a statue or symbol representing the goddess on the outer walls of their houses or villages to ask that her cold does not creep in.   When a lake starts to freeze over, it is seen as Waek and Glathir embracing. The stronger their embrace, the stronger the ice is. The hardened ice spikes on caves and trees are known as Glathirnails, natives will try to avoid breaking them out of superstition that she will come take a finger from the cold.
