The Rend

The Rend is a miles long rift in the earth, created in The Great War when Mirrad, Lord of the Skies fell from the sky.

Geography

The Rend runs roughly fifteen miles long. It's southeastern end is about 100' deep, but it reaches nearly a half mile deep at the northwestern end. The earth surrounding the chasm is pushed up into jagged spikes of rock, creating a sort of half shelter on the basin below it. Mirrad's blood continues to seep deeper into the chasm's bottom, dissolving it where it runs into a pool of acidic sludge. The chasm deepens roughly a half foot each year.

Fauna & Flora

Mirrad, Lord of the Skies's blood seeped into the earth's surface of The Rend, leaving it inhospitable to most normal flora. Some rare magical plants can survive, and they flourish in the region. 
Animals tend to avoid the area, as do the remaining dragons. Various factions vie for control over the chasm for the rare flora within, as well as from a cultural standpoint.
