Healer's Headache

Transmission & Vectors

This condition effects older Cascadians and typically just the healers'. It can occur around the age of 70 - 80.

Symptoms

Healer's headache occurs when a healer has healed too much throughout their lifetime. Symptoms include temporary loss of vision, pounding headache, sensitivity to loud noises, and in some cases vomiting.

Treatment

There is no cure for Healer's headache currently, but there are things that can be done to lessen the pain. The victim usually retreats to a darkened room with perhaps a nice smelling candle burning in a corner. Hot towels may be placed on their head as well. Whispers are used when speaking to a victim of Healer's headache, since they cannot tolerate normal noise levels. Sometimes soft music will be played by a bard to help ease their pain.

Prognosis

In some extreme cases Healer's headache can cause insanity as the headache never truly goes away.

Sequela

Once the condition had fully run its' course the victims can no longer stand any form of light and must stay in a darkened area for a small sense of peace. They cannot function in society regularly anymore and typically live the rest of their lives in darkness.

Prevention

The only prevention might be to never heal anyone since it only seems to effect the healer's. Although those who answer the call to heal seem unable to resist. Which means this illness will continue to occur.

Cultural Reception

Victims of Healer's headache are honored among Cascadians. It is seen that they fulfilled their duty to heal as much as they could and it is seen as an honor to come down with this affliction. There are buildings dedicated to taking care of the afflicted healer's for the rest of their lives. It is not seen the same by the victims once they experience the headache for themselves. Some have expressed that they would prefer death over experiencing the headache.
