Material Characteristics

Black spider silk in its' raw form is black and sticky. While . It does not leave a sticky residue it clings to anything it touches and is very hard to get off.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Once the silk is processed it will become translucent unless dyed and loses its' stickiness property. Instead it will feel smooth and cool to the touch.

Origin & Source

The black spider is found abundantly in the forests in the South of Senmir.

History & Usage

History

Originally the silk was difficult to work with, but once it was discovered that the silk should be boiled in water for one hour, dried and then brushed it was spun into fabric. Something else was discovered that when the silk was dyed and then spun it appeared to be invisible. Once made into some type of fabric and worn the wearer would appear to blend into the background. They were not truly invisible since movement could still be discerned due to the ripples across the fabric. However it would be very hard to spot someone who was wearing a black spider silk cloak.
The silk has another property which is to provide a brief sense of coolness over the skin when worn. This is very popular for people in the Kasian Empire since they live in a desert region.

Many type of clothing is made out of black spider silk. The most popular being capes or cloaks.

Trade & Market

The invisible cloaks that can be made out of the silk are rarer than a dyed version that does not cause invisibility. Most of the trade is done in the Kasian Empire as it is one of their highest imports to the country.

No one would actually eat the silk, but one brave person put a tiny bit of raw silk into their mouth. Even just the small bit almost blocked the poor souls airways. It is said to taste sour.
