Well of Souls

Located at the heart of southern Soryska, the Well of Souls is a vast magical lake where all ley lines terminate, forming one of the most powerful nodes in the world. The sheer power of this nexus makes it essentially impossible to harness, as the power destroys any attempt to do so, usually with catastrophic results for those making the attempt.
The Well of Souls draws its name from how it is also the conduit through which souls leave the world, with those whose souls travel through the nexus passing on to their afterlives, and becoming impossible to resurrect except through direct divine intervention, or personally retrieving the soul from another plane of existence.
The energy of the countless souls that pass through it every day draw many undead to the Well of Souls, but they dare not come too close, for the waters contain incalcuable life energy drawn from the souls passing on, enough that any undead who touches the water would be destroyed, and even living creatures cannot survive contact for more than a few minutes, as otherwise their bodies will destroy themselves through excessive growth. The magic rapidly fades from the water if it is removed from the lake's immediate proximity, leaving it mundane save for the faintest residue of life energy.
The Well of Souls is an impossibility in many other ways, as it is at the center of a vast depression in the earth where many rivers terminate with no outflows, yet somehow its waters are fresh and pure, at least when they have lost most magical properties. Nothing lives within it save for a number of immensely powerful life and water elementals which serve as guardians who deal with any who would threaten the Well of Souls. Many tribes of therianthropes and other sapients in the region hold the Well of Souls as sacred, as it assists them in resisting the many undead that the region is known for, and a great number of rituals take place on its banks.
