Terminus Organization in Semita | World Anvil

Terminus

Terminus, or as it was known to in hushed whispers amongst the enslaved people of the world: the end of the line.    Terminus was an ancient order of freedom fighters who fought against the harsh brutal regime of slavery instituted in The First Orderning of the World put in place by The Elder Ones. it is said that every major uprising against slavery in history had it roots in Terminus's Conductors walking the world spreading the will to be free amongst the oppressed people of the world.   It is even believed that Durin the Wanderer may have discovered Terminus during his years away from the iron fist mountains, and that may have been what spurred him on to return to home and start the slave revolt that would cascade into The Iron Fist Rebellion with his death. Though, history does not know this definitely.    All that we do know is that Terminus was founded by The Father of Freedom, a Great Old One who in the absence of The Elder Ones became disillusioned with the institution of servitude many of the races were created into. He looked to the oppression forced onto avians, dwarves, and humans, and sought to remedy it. So he, and a group of like minded individuals, left contemporary society and began to work with all resources available to them undermine the institution of slavery as best they could.    Over the course of millennia and centuries of work Terminus would end all slavery on Semita but the slave economy propped up by the powerful halfling empire and their allies the dark elves, minotaur's, and goblins. But, they needed not act directly to sew the seeds of discord against the halfling slave empire.    They knew that the hafllings were doomed the moment they enslaved hill dwarves in their northern fringe. The dwarves had been slaves once, they would not be slaves again.    Terminus facilitated the safe haven for many run away slaves during The Great Grudge War, but it was only after making contact with Blade Reed that the organization decided to take an active role in the war; once it was realized what the haflling empire was doing to much of its slave population: exterminating them rather then allowing them to be freed by the invading Allied Coalation.    The Father of Freedom joined the Allied Coalition and soon after the end of the war he bid Semita a fond farwell and left Terminus in the capable of hands of Blade Reed and the other conductors as he went to spread freedom amongst the stars his life's work on Semita finally complete: a free world.    Later that year Terminus would formally be disbanded and much of its numbers would join Blade Reed's Cirque de Liberty a successor organization designed to spread the ideas of freedom out in the open rather then oppose tyranny from the shadows; a tactic the Father of Freedom recognized as a mistake.

Structure

For the most part membership in Terminus was like working in a gang with no real organization or leadership. The Father of Freedom gave the group direction, but did not give edicts or orders on how specific agents were to conduct themselves. He did name Conductors to lead cells of the organization towards specific end goals, and to foster recruitment. But for the most part their was no traditional hierarchy.    By and large the organization was run as a commune with common purpose, with The Father of Freedom as a figure head venerated as The Highest Among Equals and their living moral authority.
