Tueor (TOO'eh'ohr)

Overview

Tueor are specialized slaves trained from birth. They are all given the same curriculum starting from the time they can walk. This includes basics in combat, reading, writing, mathematics, and history. When they turn twelve, they begin specializing in a particular weapon. Generally, this is either a dagger, sword, or spear. When younger ones are purchased, they are almost exclusively used for bodyguards or military purposes. In the late teens and early 20s, further education in history, mathematics, dancing, sewing, etc. is given and education is complete when the Tueor reaches 30. At this point they are generally sold for their full price. Early purchases tend to occur when they are in their mid-20s.   They cost 43 goshir (Eoion Empire currency), which translates to 800,000 pavacs (Yzel Kingdom currency) or $600,000 (USD)   Each one is named by a number first, which is the sum of their birthday. For example, a child born Hoan 20 1046 would be named (1046+10+20=1076). After their first weapon, the child is given a new name based on that number, 14 (1+0+7+6), and a proper name given by the primary trainer. These numbers help identify a Tueor, although most masters only refer to them by their proper name after first introductions to either the slave or when introducing the slave to others. Owning a Tueor is considered a mark of high status.

Career

Qualifications

The babies used for Tueor training often come from poor families who sell their children to the trainers or from the children of other Tueor.

Payment & Reimbursement

Slaves are not paid. Only the trainer is paid at the time of purchase.

Perception

Purpose

Tueor have varying purposes depending on when they are purchased and by whom. Those who are bought younger tend to be used as bodyguards or for other military purposes. Fully trained Tueor can also fill this role, but are often used as guardians and teachers for noble children, along with assisting the head of the household.

Social Status

Regardless of their specialized training, Tueor are still slaves and thus are at the bottom of the social hierarchy.

History

The first Tueor slaves were part of Eoin culture before the empire began. However, as the importance and scope of the aristocracy expanded with the addition of the former kingdoms, more people wanted them. Slavers began kidnapping the infants of poor families along with the regular slaves' babies they had already been using in order to train more.    This led to strict regulations regarding how infant Tueor slaves can be procured. There are still those who kidnap babies, but they are rare and, if found, can face heavy fines and long prison sentences.    Currently, at least one Tueor slave is owned by anyone ranking as a vice duke or higher. Their price has increased over the years as more specialized training has been introduced. Slaves can be purchased as infants and trained more particularly in weapons or other skill, although this generally does not happen. It is more likely that a mid-teen or early-twenties Tueor will be bought if the master wants a particular skill. These will be trained by the master on top of their original training.
