Flame Talk

Flame talk, or uurezja prabbɲøy in Vlo is a recruitment technique used by Castor Nilenna in his work gathered more people to join Seraph Rae.

History

Most late discussions between members of the Vlo people take place around fires. These have been the places for important and trivial talks alike and they are traditionally very intimate affairs as hiding from possible attacks was the norm for centuries. Fires were needed for light and cooking, but discussions had to be done in hushed tones. This forced those around the campfires to sit close together, fostering a feeling of comradery among them.    As the Vlo became arguably safer within their own communities, the use of flame talks fell away and normal discussions took their place. However, important meetings are still held this way, which is something that Castor picked up on and began using for his own purposes.

Execution

Castor's main strategy when traveling to a new Vlo settlement is to find those who are outcasts within the community and begin speaking casually to them. His overall goal is to bring more members into Seraph Rae and grow the organization. By seeking out those who are not strongly tied to their wider social group, he tries to create a new one for them that will eventually lead them to joining the cartel.    Once he has found between four and ten people he thinks will make good recruits, he invites them to a small flame talk away from the main group. In setting up his fire, he is very careful to add in slight changes to the strictly traditional method to show that he is not completely with those who have caused his new 'friends' to feel left out.    While the potential recruits might not be completely taken with Vlo traditions, they grew up in them and Castor knows that these social cues and such are still there.    After setting up the fire, he begins his discussion of his own experiences with Seraph Rae and and then moves into what the group can offer those around him. By the end of his talk, he has generally convinced one or two right there. However, he continues this for several days, sometimes discussing Seraph Rae, but mostly listening to their issues and becoming a friend. When he finally leaves the group, his success rate tends to be 70-75% joining.
