Government

The city is led by two of the The Five Traders , who also live in the town. As expected, having two leaders for one settlements ended in many conflicts. To avoid these conflicts, there is always some unwritten gentlemen agreement between two traders, so each of them has different areas or places under control.   Law are uphold by United Provinces Security, mainly by their overwatch branch. The defense is handled by their military.   There are also other influential organizations, mainly rich business owners and guilds. There is always battle of influence between the Great Traders and the rich. The Great Traders needs to keep their wealth to maintain position or even expand it. There is no better town to rule, while also filling your vaults with more wealth, but every day struggle with politics and economy intrigues make it very difficult.

Defences

The stone walls provide basic defense, where many archers can be placed to fire on the enemy. The town barracks host about 300 archers and crossbowmen. Another 2000 bows and 600 crossbows in armories, for militia to defend the city in times of need.   The town has another 600 soldiers ready to fight for the city and 30 Pegasuses stationed near the castle, for the messengers, to call for help or may be used to support defenses by precise attacks.   The walls can be charged with arcana energies to make them resistant against elemental energies (fire, lightning...) and provide anti teleportation barrier.   Inside the city is split into many districts by many canals, from the river. Only path from one district is by using a bridge above the canal. The bridges can be destroyed and slow down progress of the enemy while defender will organize last stand or reinforcements will arrive.   To complete conquer this city, the enemy needs to capture two very fortified points. First the main castle, on the rocky hill, hardly reachable. For usual transport of people and goods, it uses machine that lifts everything up no the hill, but this will be made inoperable during siege times. While the attackers which try to reach this high gates, they will be under constant from arrows and cannonballs.   The second is fort in dwarven district. The fort is partially made of tunnels in cave that can be sealed and to get to the defenders, enemy will need to climb in their outside parts of the world, where they would be very vulnerable. To clear the tunnels, many days needs to be wasted.

Infrastructure

The Waterdeep have ideal location from growth. West part for farmlands and forest, where food is harvested, north the [Frostbite Mountains], where copper, coal and lead are mined. On the east side there marshes with rare herbs and exotic skins. These resources meet in the town where they are either processed by many guilds and crafters or traded.   The Access to the sea and river delta where the town is laying on, allows great access to fish and there are also some pearl hunters. The rivers flow fuels many of the watermills, many of them very old, that have kicked of the citys industry in the past.   The port also allowed to expand the trade to many other sea side cities and cherry on top for all traders is the Airship Spire, where airships helps to bring goods to otherwise hardly reachable locations and shows the big prosperity of the owners.

Architecture

The architecture in this city is varied, mainly due that each district had it purpose and wealth of the district dictated some standards. Usually the craftsmen and merchant districts, have three or two stores building, where in the first store was either a shop or an workshop and the floors above were reserved for living. Most common was for the merchants and crafters to live with their families above their workplace.   Most different architecture can be seen in dwarven district, which is next to very steep (almost vertical) side of the hill. Many of the houses are carved into the rock, connected by few inner caves and path inside. Dominant part of the hill wall is the fortress, which on the bottom only has big metal double gates, with emblems of all dwarven clans living in Waterdeep. The rest of the (visible part) is on the upper parts of the walls while top of the fort is the highest structure on the hill. The surrounding houses on the ground are usually made from stone, many of them larger mansions where multiple families from same clan live together.   The city is split via the river, its delta any many artificial canals. Above these canals are bridges connect district. Each bridge has engraved quotes from famous literature. In the middle near sea a small hill rises, surrounded by two smaller rivers. On top of the hill, there is royal part and castle.
