The Shadow

The term used to describe the physical manifestation of dark energy. In the draconic tongue, Necrovar simply means "darkness" -- and that is the simplest way to describe this particular entity. It feeds off of negative emotions and it is a force of balance and destruction.   Humans have long known about Necrovar, and have many superstitions and legends regarding its origin. Some say it leaked out of the Broken Vale, claiming it was a different, dark magic that was never meant to exist, which escaped when the other magics did: a thirteenth magic, if you will. Some say it is the embodiment of evil, and it came to Selaras seeking to feed off of the hate, greed, and anger of mortals. In the Twelfth Age, now that nearly seven-thousand years have passed since Necrovar last walked the earth, some believe it never existed at all, and think it little more than a bedtime story to frighten children into behaving.   The truth of Necrovar is greater and darker than any mortal can know. It is an energy of godlike proportion, but for many eons, mortals were safe from this dark entity, this Shadow. This is because Necrovar is nothing more than energy -- it does not have a soul, and therefore it cannot wield its own power.   Up until The Great War of the Second Age, Necrovar had no control over itself or anyone else, because it lacked a soul. That all changed when the human mage Helkryvt Moothvaler pledged himself to be its vessel. When Necrovar fused with Helkryvt, it gained a mortal body and soul; thus, it finally gained the ability to wield, and it unleashed itself upon the world.
