Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 26 Report
General Summary
After the daring rescue of one friend, and receiving dire news from another, the exhausted adventuring party known as The Rising Koi sought refuge and an audience with the Akamori Household. As they passed through the Mon Gate into the property, they first had to defuse the murderous intent to exterminate their Goblin ally for being the vermin humanity saw them as… then they had to convince the elderly duo to take action at the warning Meh presented: That Golbin Armies would march onto the countryside after next sundown.
Fortunately, they were able to get the Akamori to see Reason… getting the isolationist Natsu to call upon the Five Landlords of the Silverport Countryside to devise a defense strategy. Arata also volunteered to stay behind as he healed to train the Watchmen to fight for their lives. All that was left for the Rising Koi to do was to ensure those letters got to the Landlords in time.
To do this as quickly as possible, the Party decided that they could find messengers to deliver the letters for them at The Beffudled Baku, where many countrymen lingered when they had leisure time. What greeted them was not what they expected, for the tavern had been turned into smoldering ruins with two men hung by their own entrails surrounded by five decapitated heads of oxen on pikes. After rallying the countrymen by invoking the name of their Grandfather who would aid them, they inspected the bodies further– the Barkeep and the Doctor from the night before. Their bodies were cut and beaten in a cruel way, that only a sadist could stomach. Four Fingers on each hand were broken into some unnatural angle, and their thumbs were removed. It was a horrific display, and the Party still had business in town, so they carried on in their journey… thankful they had been able to avoid the Butcher’s Wrath the night previous. For they knew these corpses were displayed for them.
When arriving back in town, the Party first returned to the Barracks to check-in where they found Sadao. They exchanged information. The Rising Koi spoke of what happened beyond the walls and assured the recruit that Arata was safe… And Sadao spoke of a status update on Kujaku’s sentencing and on what suspicious behavior allegedly happened at the Sea Monk Tavern Raid. Official Reports say that the Barkeep resisted arrest, some of the Silverguard that Sadao had had a drink with afterward said that there was no resistance… that Lieutenant Kondo Musa killed him in cold blood. Apollo seemed unsurprised by this news, pushing forward their request to travel back to Silverhold tomorrow, in hopes they could question Utano further about the Brides of Akorro.
On their way back to Hana’s Teahouse, the Rising Koi went to retrieve their armor from The Kirin’s Hide. Here they were greeted by a different Acolyte, who asked them if they said anything to Asakaze on their last visit… as he seemed upset by something and excused himself before dinner. Prod as might, the Party stayed silent as they were given back their protective gear before heading to their home base of operations. Here they conversed with Akinari, and Hana as they tried to get a better understanding of their next course of action….
