Variable sword, A.k.a. VarBlade

This magically shifting sword is the culmination of years of research into the ways of the spectral nature of ghosts and extra sensorial beings. Having the capability to change in shape and form. This seemingly ghostly blade is adaptable to any instant it’s bearer might need.

This magical sword has 3 charges. When attuned, the user gains a +1 to attack and damage rolls, additionally, the user as a bonus action may spend a charge of the blade and choose one of the following properties to add to the weapon in hand. Using another one in any subsequent turn overwrites the bonus, and all properties are unable to overlap with themselves. Any property fades after 5 minutes. All charges are restored after a long rest.

Reach. The sword gains the reach property with an additional range of 5ft.

Hooked. The sword gains a carved hook to it’s edge. Gaining a +1 to attack and damage rolls with it. Additionally, after hitting a target for the first time, the sword deals an additional xd4 damage. Where "x" is the amount of times the same target has been hit. This bonus caps at x = 3. Changing of targets drops the bonuses, and they are not transferible to other targets.

Cleaver. The sword grows in wide length allowing for hit of multiple targets by forfeiting effectiveness. Gaining -1 to attack and damage rolls, and, when attacking a creature, if that creature has any adjacent creatures within 5ft of itself. Are subject to the same attack roll, if hit, apply the damage of the initial target to the others.

Adaptability. The sword changes of shape and mass, allowing even unexperienced users of its initial incarnation to wield the blade. The user gains proficiency if they didn't innitially have it.

Shiftcurse. The sword changes of form and color as it imbues itself in the life essence of it's user to fuel it's attacks. The sword becomes a +3 variant. Half of all damage performed by this blade is rebound to the user as pure damage by the end of turn.
