Human Nation
Look, we could talk about human tribalism, and the power of bonding together over a common enemy/ scapegoat, and how negative behavior at the top of society validates increased negativity at all levels, and there would be some validity to all of it. But let’s just be direct here: Assholes gonna asshole. And few organizations on earth allow you to asshole like the Human Nation. They are built on the hate of the other (specifically, the ork/ troll/dwarf/elf other, especially those first two). They’re happy to take direct action, going on rampages beating every meta in sight, but they’re even happier to screw up systems so that all metas, everywhere, have a harder time of it. Did an ork kid get in a fight with a human kid at school? They’ll work on “zero tolerance” policies that get ork and troll kids punished and expelled quicker than humans. They’ll campaign for longer jail sentences for orks and trolls and also look at criminalizing poverty whenever possible. If they can’t make every individual hate metahumans. They’ll make systems hate them. They are bullies who never learned anything more—it would be pathetic and sad if it weren’t so destructive.
The more aggressive and thuggish policlub, they’re the ones we most often think of when we think of racism. They’re the leg-breakers, the guys with white laces (for “racial purity”) in their boots who travel in packs, beat orks that they find out alone, steal lunch money from dwarfs, and prey on elves. They’re not subtle, so Humanis uses them as muscle while the Nation uses the policlub as brains and a source of funding. They operate closely, but they’re not one and the same. The mouthbreathers get greedy now and then, or get drunk or strung out on BTLs and screw things up, and there’s always the risk that they’ll not think that Humanis Guy number seven is as racist as he needs to be so they’ll leave him hanging while they find somebody “appropriately” racist to work for. But in general, they’re on the same page. The Nation are the bombs while the Policlub are the matches. Since the Policlub’s membership is public, the Nation also serves as a sort of “holding company” for people who want to be racist but not get so much camera time. If you’re a suit, old money, or glitterati, you hang with the Policlub. If you’re a Lone Star cop, a scientist, or unloading trucks at Kong-Walmart, you join the Nation. They’re a private group, and they keep their membership records tight. If you want to know who’s in a local branch, you have to go in per- son and go through honest-to-ghost paper shoved into filing cabinets. Threatening to expose them can stop some of them, but the majority just shrug. If you plan on blackmailing any of them, you need to understand if releasing that information would hurt them or not. A couple of dockworkers aren’t going to roll over, but a doctor might. Judge carefully.
