SuFlacci

Also known as the City of Emerald Sands, SuFlacci (Su-flah-key) Is considered a 'Free' state.  They have no allegiance to any Monarchy, be it a Falling Kingdom or one of the New God-Kings nation states.  SuFlacci is instead governed by a Merchants guild comprised of 3 powerful houses, each embroiled with the other for more power and control within the city and without.  Suflacci resides on the East banks of the Esmeril River which many further inland cities use to ship goods towards the ocean ports.  One the opposite side of the river lies the Wesgroven Forrest a deep and elder wood that extends for miles, to the East of the city the Hessyx Desert a travel site for many expeditions who feverishly explore the Hessyx Plateau's ancient ruins.

Demographics

Racially SuFlacci is a wide mixture, with many a passerby.  The 'aristocracy' of Suflacci comes in the forms of Well off Merchant Families who live lavishly with decadent lifestyles.  On the opposite end of the spectrum SuFlacci has around 15% of its population held in servitude, whether it be direct slavery or the more common indentured servant who must work off a contract to the owner.  Both professional soldiers and tradesman live comfortably as they are paid respectably for their services by the merchant guilds.

Government

SuFlacci Is ran by a Merchant Guild.  while multiple Merchant Families are associated with the Guild, The 3 most powerful Families are often considered to collectively control the city.  The Rockgrin's, a Family of Gnomish Tinkerers and craftsman, often considered the more forward thinking of the 3, The Calleiope's, a Human family with a deep history from the Hessyx Desert as shrewd nomadic traders, and the Velgian's, a Sorcerous Tiefling bloodline, that claim control of the docks and the trade passages down the river.

Defences

SuFlacci is a walled in city to the north and south wrapping in an arching section to its eastern side with a large gate leading out into the desert.  The only open section of ingress being the docks on the river, which are routinely patrolled and watched for incoming skiffs and riverboats carrying goods.

Infrastructure

  • The Esmeril River Docks is a sight to behold, it is a constant churning of skiffs headed down and up the river transporting cargo.  Large secure buildings house many goods that pass through the city and await transport.
  • The Bazaar of SuFlacci is a bustling patchwork of stands, most of which are torn down and put up again each day, it can be found on the eastern end of the city as you approach the Gates to the Hessyx Desert.  All sorts of wares can be found here, from delicacies and expedition supplies, to trinkets and 'magical' baubles explorers have brought back from trips into the deserts many ruins.
  • 3 distinct manors each belonging to the head families stand out starkly against the cities backdrop.  While most homes here ae stacked tightly together and often adjoined by whatever workshop or profession the family might hold, the Three Manors are spaced away from the rest each in its own section of the city with beautifully groomed landscapes and several small outbuildings for servants dotting the properties.
  1. StoneSpire Manor; The estate of the Rockgrin family located in the NE corner of the city, a large mansion primarily constructed from expert stone work its most prominent feature is the large 3rd floor observatory and telescope that faces out to the Desert.
  2. House Diamondhand; the estate of the Calliopes sits to the southeast of the Bazaar, This Mansion sprawls across the landscape, It is a labyrinthian construction that has obviously seen many additions, renovations and expansions over time.  It is most remarkably known for its many second floor balconies, each with a pair of gem encrusted scones set into the doorway that are lit every night at sundown.
  3. The Velgine; The namesake estate of the Velgian merchant family sits in the southwest corner of the city on a small hillside giving the giant second floor windows a sprawling view of the docks and river.  The large second floor Parlor may be the visual beauty of the Velgine, but to those who listen to whispers throughout the city, it is said the Velgine is filled with secret tunnels and dungeons that extend deep under the hillside it resides upon.
