Skill: Steady Aim

Description

Steady Aim enhances a character's ability to maintain control over their weapon and improve precision during combat. This skill is critical for ranged weapon users, especially when targeting at long distances or aiming for critical weak points. The skill minimizes the effects of hand tremors, breathing, and movement to allow for more accurate shots under various conditions.

Primary Attribute: Accuracy
Secondary Attribute: Dexterity

Skill Progression

  1. Level 1-10:
  2. Reduces weapon sway slightly when aiming.
  3. Increases accuracy for stationary shots.
  4. Level 11-30:
  5. Improves accuracy further for shots taken while standing still.
  6. Adds a small critical hit chance when aiming for at least 1 second.
  7. Level 31-50:
  8. Introduces precision compensation while moving slowly (walking).
  9. Reduces penalties for aiming at targets that are moving unpredictably.
  10. Level 51-75:
  11. Enables near-perfect accuracy while crouching or prone.
  12. Adds a "focus timer" mechanic: the longer you hold your aim, the more precision increases, up to a cap.
  13. Critical hit chances increase the longer you hold your aim, up to a maximum of +10% bonus.
  14. Level 76-100:
  15. Minimizes penalties for aiming while running or jumping.
  16. Reduces the time needed to reach maximum "focus timer" accuracy.
  17. Enables "snap aim," where the crosshair momentarily locks onto the nearest weak point when aiming down sights (cooldown applies).

Practical Applications

  • Sniping: Essential for snipers who rely on precision and patience to maximize their damage output.
  • Critical Damage: At higher levels, the skill significantly boosts critical hit chances, rewarding players who take their time to line up shots.
  • Moving Combat: Advanced levels of the skill make ranged attacks while on the move much more viable, expanding the tactical options for players.

Training

  • Combat Practice: Use ranged weapons in combat and aim carefully before taking shots. Longer aiming durations yield more progress.
  • Marksmanship Challenges: Complete time-based or precision-based challenges, such as hitting targets from long distances.
  • Skill Books: Learn advanced shooting techniques from manuals or virtual training programs.

Advanced Training Options

  • Augmented Weapons: Attach stabilizing mods to weapons to reduce sway, which can further enhance the skill's effectiveness.
  • Target Range Simulations: Special training areas or missions that allow repeated practice against moving or distant targets.

Gameplay Notes

  • Focus Timer Mechanic: The focus timer encourages players to balance the risk of staying stationary while aiming versus taking faster, less accurate shots.
  • Role Synergy: Combines well with skills like Ranged Weaponry and Target Analysis to maximize effectiveness in combat.
  • Balance Considerations: The "snap aim" mechanic is intentionally limited to prevent overpowering, with cooldowns ensuring it remains a tactical choice rather than a constant advantage.
