Alnasl

Written for WA Summer Camp 2021 - Prompt 13
Ethnicity: Detail an ethnicity surviving in an inhospitable region.

A subset of the Ram ethnicity, the Alnasl sometimes are confused as the sole ethnicity of the Shams Desert region. Their rather violent nature sets them apart from other [Ram], and makes them specially different from people from Rukbat and Arkab, the more affluent [Ram] settlements. They are known for being a settlement focused on raising strong warriors, popular in the region by the name of Moon Warriors. They believe and proving their right to live through trials and overcoming adversity. recently, there's been a movement towards expanding their reach outside the area of their settlement. There have been cases of fights breaking out between Alnasl and non-Ram targets. The frequency grew to such an extent that tension and public unrest overflows in Rukbat and Arkab.

Beauty Ideals

Demonstrations of strength and resourcefulness are seen as the peak of beauty, thus the more achievements one has, the more beautiful they are. As your skin colour represents your survival in the battle against the Sun, for the Alnasl the darker your skin tone the more beautiful you are; it is proof of surviving a greater assault from the Sun and of your potential strength.

Courtship Ideals

In order to prove their affections, Alnasl will go through a four-stage courtship ritual to show strength, resourcefulness, will to protect and potential future. As a show of strength, they hunt an elemental animal, usually native to the Shams Desert. As a show of resourcefulness, they must attain an item asked by their intended. To demonstrate their will to protect their intended and future family, they will fight an enemy of the intended's choosing. Showing what awaits their intended if they so choose to formalize their union, a promise of a great future together, they will gift the intended something; it can be an item, material, animal or even constructing something. This is a very creative stage of the courtship and even fighting another enemy has been given as a promise of a great future.
