Oxgolok Festival

This is a 14-day long event in dedication to the god of sacrifice. In the Capital of Sausordad, Souria, folks open fighting pits with flaming pyres in front of them. Those who fall to the pits must make a sacrifice on behalf of the victor. If one yeilds to combat, this sacrifice can gange from a slave, to trinckets, to simply submitting their own life.
The pits are open through the night during this time. Being lit by the pyres as combat commences until the morning hours.
The blood sports of The Gods Coliseum draw many to watch. Even gods will come and observe heroes be made in the coliseum.
The festival is also a popular time for markets and peddlers as tourists, mercenaries, and warriors come to partake in the events one way or another.

History

The Oxgolok festival was more or less a series of fighting pits out in the Raiding Grounds during the time of the Second Age. Sausoridad, The Arid King decided to open The Gods Coliseum to provide himself and his people with entertainment.
Since then, attendance has grown with every year, though not all come to partake in the combat but find it as an excuse to observe Souria culture and observe.

Execution

For a fight to be observed by Oxgolok a pyre nearby must be set aflame. Those who die during combat are thrown into the pyre as the victor remains in the pit. The battles do not end until the pyre burns out. Each body added provides more kindling and extends the time to be observed and gain favor with the god.

Participants

It is said that those who sacrifice will be closer to Oxgolok and rank as a higher devil as they pass on. Those who believe and see their life as damned will participate in order to ascend ranks and strived to be the torturers rather than the tortured in the afterlife.
Not all who participate do so for religious purposes. Those who have bloodlust will partake in the fighting pits regularly during this time. Mercenary groups will use combat results in order to recruit new members. Gamblers will place bets on fighters as a recreational means of making a profit.
