Iacommo Ionéz

Iacommo Ionéz

Iaccomo is a healthy and brash young Rock Gnomish Artificer with Bardic tendencies.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

He's a slim gnome. Mostly, he uses his stature to be able to crawl through tight spaces in tombs, or into the barrels of the magical cannons he maintains.

Body Features

He has short, light brown hair with loose curls hidden under a wide-brimmed Pith helmet. For a gnome, he's of average height.

Facial Features

His golden-green eyes are his most noticeable feature on an otherwise completely forgettable face. One could say that he looked somewhat like the default face for a gnome in WoW.

Identifying Characteristics

Always carries his Pith helmet.

Apparel & Accessories

He is clothed in a forever-dusty plaid button-down shirt tucked into khaki cargo shorts. His hair is tucked into his trusty helmet. BIGASS brown boots wrap his feet and calves. To top it off, he carries his gear in a complex backpackers' rig with a bunch of shit sticking out of it. He also usually is wearing his mechamagical gauntlet.

Personal history

Iaccomo was born in Grinefell, a small village on the eastern border of the Grand Duchy of Mudbansi. Tragically, his mother died during childbirth, leaving him to be raised by his father. His father was a blacksmith and part of town militia.   When Iaccomo was very young, a group of artificers passed through the village and requested shelter and supplies from the village council. In exchange for their hospitality, the artificers gifted a trio of large magical cannons. With these cannons, Grinefell has been able to stabilize into a burgeoning town. These artificers that built the cannons in Grinefell influenced him into becoming an artificer.   A couple decades later Iaccomo was becoming an accomplished apprentice under his father at the smithy. One auspicious night, a terrible lion's roar ripped through the air as a massive shadowy figure descended on the town. Barely anything was visible in the sky during the brief flashes of light cast from the arching of the electricity emitting from the cannons. Iaccomo ran towards his father as he headed to the armory for a crossbow, but both were cut short as the blur knocked them to the ground. Iaccomo got to his feet to find his father dead, with a large slash cut vertically up his spine. He was now an orphan, and his village now looked to him to run the smithy.   For some time, Iaccomo dedicated himself to hunting down his father's killer, this shadowy beast. His search led him to a moss-covered ruined temple. Within this temple, large carvings illustrated serpentine hunters warring with looming clouds of shadow, represented by ribbons of obsidian surrounded with scorched earth. A long corridor terminated in a lithograph with a silver stringed instrument as its centerpiece. Claiming the zither, he was soon beset by the temple's naga guardians. Needless to say, he fled as fast as his little gnome feet would carry him. The nagas laughed. This was his first taste of tomb raiding, and certainly it kickstarted his career as an archaeologist and explorer.   Iaccomo self-funded his early expeditions via his inherited smithy business; his "contract" with the village council repairing the magical cannons is how he met Helena Feathergleam, the self-titled Countess of Grinefell. During one of her fundraising events, Iaccomo eventually convinces Helena to fund an expedition to a cave rumored to house "some kind of monster". As luck would have it, the cave turns out to be a partially caved in Dwarven mine. The monster ended up being a haywire eldritch cannon, which was quickly tamed by Iaccomo's "technomagistery". Amongst the alcoves in the walls, he discovered schematics for miniaturized versions of the town cannons, as well as a phosphorescent paint that he applied to his gauntlet.

Sexuality

He's madly in love with his patron, Helena Feathergleam. If Helenasexual was a choice on a form, he'd check that box a billion times.

Education

He is a graduate of the College of Grinefell, the town trade school housed in a single-room convention hall. This College is also where he occasionally holds smithing classes.

Employment

The smithy: formerly Iaccomo's father's, the Grinefell Smithy provides all metal goods for the town. Primarily, this accounts for construction materials, arms, and armor, though due to Iaccomo's reputation as an artificer, he often has various semimagical gadgets available for sale. In addition, the smithy is responsible for maintaining the three large magical cannons that protect the town's borders.
In addition to this, Iaccomo will run expeditions to various locations as he searches for treasure for his patron and clues to the identity and location of his father's killer.

Accomplishments & Achievements

On one of his expeditions, he discovered a large fossil of an extinct arthropod. This fossil is now displayed at the College of Grinefell.

Failures & Embarrassments

He has a problem with discarding things, to the point where his smithy is a bit overstuffed with scrap metal and quarter-finished tinkering projects.

Mental Trauma

He hates snakes because they're wiggly.

Morality & Philosophy

He's focused on preservation of the artifacts that he discovers during his expeditions. Despite insurmountable odds, he will never give up.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Helena Feathergleam - patron that funds most of Iaccomo's missions. Countess of Grinefell; a single human woman in her mid-30s. Is basically Leslie Knope in her job; ultimately wants to rebrand Grinefell and turn it into a tourist destination.

Youthful and brash archaeologist with a penchant for eldritch cannons and magical tunes. An orphan at a young age, he was raised by his village of Grinefell. Now, he tends to the town's smithing needs when he's not exploring.
