Zahdoni Goblin Species in Sasara | World Anvil

Zahdoni Goblin

Also known as gremlins or gurbles, the Goblins of Zahdoni are an mysterious and mischievous species. They are known for their wild array of natural adaptations to their environment, complex customs and cultures, and their irrepressible need to experiment and learn. It is not known if the goblins are native to Zahdoni or, like other goblins, can be linked to the feywild. What is known, is that Zahdoni Goblins are not found anywhere else in Sasara.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Very little of a Zahdoni Goblin's outward appearance links it to anyone outside of its direct tribe. These few traits include size, which is always under four foot though can range down to two; four limbs; and a standard humanoid facial structure, though their sensory organs tend to be larger than average for their size. These leaves a huge swath of physiology that can can be entirely different between any given tribes of goblin. Hair, fur, skin colour, length of limbs, even musculature and skeletal structure can swing widely within the species.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Zahdoni Goblin is a highly adaptable species that finds significant environmental mutation and adaptation with each generation. The gestation period for Zahdoni goblins are very short, commonly a few months, and sexual maturity is reached within a few years. These timeframes can be significantly longer between tribes, and even between individuals depending on the genetic mutations.

Growth Rate & Stages

Sexual maturation is commonly rapid, usually a 5-10 years. Physical maturation is often different to this, and quite a lot longer as the physical mutations settle into the individual. Most tribes continue to grow and develop over their entire biological life, which could be 10-30 years.

Ecology and Habitats

The adaptation of the Zahdoni Goblin, and its rapid reproduction cycle, allows the species to exist in most environments, being fully adapted to their environment within 2-3 generations. One of the most intriguing elements of these goblins is that, rather than acting as a typical invasive species, many of the adaptations specifically target integration into the environment, even when previous adaptations would result in dominance in the environment instead. This can include making the goblins less dominant or even adapting into a prey species.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The dietary requirements of the Zahdoni Goblin tends to be highly differentiated and often environmentally specific, both limiting any given goblin from moving far from their adapted environment, and encouraging the environmental shift of any individual or group of individuals who is too heavily mutated, to find a more suitable environment for them. As such, this species tends to exist in small, semi-nomadic tribes that shift territory slightly, generation-to-generation.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Thanks to their larger than average sensory organs, Zahdoni Goblins have excellent perception of the world around them. This has benefits and drawbacks for the goblins, and how it affects different tribes of goblin can vary; one tribe, for instance, might find sweet flavours sickening but have the ability to see at night just as well as they see in the day, while others might be unable to differentiate colour, but can identify specific unique flavours that.
