The Howlitzer

The Howlitzer is breach-loading cannon installed in the mouth of Eyrur Sparkcrafter's steel defender, Maugrim.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

To load it one must open a hatch installed on Maugrim's back, take out the old spent shell, and load the new one. An artificer can magically create shells for it, but it takes time. Once per short or long rest, the artificer can create one shell and load it into Maugrim. Only one shell can be created at a time. The shells come in one of three types, chosen upon creation.

• High Explosive (creates a level 3 Fireball spell centered on the target, Dex save for half)
• Flachette (same damage as a Fireball, but deals piercing damage instead and doesn’t go around corners, also Dex save for half)
• Armor Piercing (one target using Eyrur's spell attack modifier, 6d10 piercing damage, no save to reduce damage).

All shells are considered magical for the purposes of damage reduction.
