Synod Ascendancy
"Honor and Stone. Blood and Bone. Such are tokens paid in exchange for our own demise. They are made in offering in unwitting destruction of the common good. We give ourselves to our own worst natures in the waking world, why should the earth and its agents not do the same? To survive, we must avoid the calamity of the society, only then will the apocalypse of the civilization be defeated".
--The Augur of Kaifenburg
In ages past, a friction formed between those that lived upon the world and the forces they so foolishly thought they could control. Yet, a change comes due with payment, an action is reaction, kharma anon thiir. Through this many a civilization has been unmade and forgotten... some would say it is the inevitable fate of each and every one. High Cospia, in the fourth century since the Burning (371 AB) worshipped the bones of the earth and the wills of the winds. Such was their ticket out of the apocalypse, revering the spirits that had destroyed Caesia Thiir while hoping to evade their wrath through earnest offering. The capital of High Cospia, however, was taken beneath the Sea of Coin, and many put the blame upon the spirits' names. The surrounding years, rotten as those of the Earthbone's Apocalypse, saw the fracturing of High Cospia and the downfall of the Serekh of Seracheim, and while the newly formed Deliverance of Kharn found their own salvation from the ashes of ephemeral servitude, the Augur of Kaifenburg declared and decreed a way for her followers that would spread like wildfire. It did not spread due to the allure of the teachings, for it held little over or under its competitors, nor the power it offerred, but over the centuries, it proved a concrete way to make the spirits a belevolent force upon civilization, rather than a calamitous one. The Synod Ascendancy, which worships a non-constant pantheon of beings that are seen as part of the world around us, rather than above and beyond in the celestial realm, was created from this decree. Their wisdom: if by working against the divine, you invite its wrath, and worshipping it, you invite its focus and ire all the same, but by ignoring it, you risk unknowingly erring upon its rules, there exists only one survivable path. A pantheon must be curated as to cater to and understand the ever-changing spiritual wills of the entities therein, named Caixa, so that their boons are earned, their hidden voices are known, and their wrath is appeased. In essence, the Ecclesithurges of the Synod Ascendancy will seasonally worship and make offerings to the Caixes, burning certain Caixes' temples and banning their worship when times change. For example, the Caixa Tylwyth of the Seasons is revered in the spring and summer, and at autumn's first fall, his temples are burned in a great celebration, and his worship is outlawed, lest the winter be doubly harsh with Tylwyth's change in mood. Each city across the Halcyon Traverse and the Heimarchy, as well as Cervantia and a number of neighboring states, curates their own Synod with Caixa that match and benefit their society and its unique goals.
