Darrik

Darrik was orphaned at birth, left on the steps of the Chapel of the Light. The church of Dombus, the god of Gifts and Hospitality, took him in. Jürgen Mistwood formed a sort of father figure to him, always caring for him and teaching him the ways of the Guardians.
After many years serving as the righteous forbearance of Dombus, Darrik was asked to do something he couldn't do, kill someone who was honestly trying to help. The mercenary he was ordered to kill was Irene Euphrasia, who was trying to save a rebellious commoner from death. Instead, he protected them both from a guard, who later died from his injuries, to Darrik's horror.
As a consequence of this, Darrik was excommunicated from the church, escaping punishment just once due to the efforts of his mentor, Jürgen. However, a fallen paladin has no place in the city of Golryon, and he was always seen as a guard-killer.
Darrik learned the names of his parents through the insight of the Sahuaguin King Leytharn; Arleha and Rugnel.
After many trials with The Ember Spears, Darrik was one of the first to step forward to Duke Lofus Stormborn, and he received his redemption in the eyes of the people of Golryon, as did many others. Going forth to fight to the nearly certain death at the hands of terrible Slaadi earned him his forgiveness. During the ritual to receive the Rune, he spoke with the face of Dombus himself, who showed him the world and its immense struggles. After this fight, and the death of two of his friends, The Ember Spears disbanded and he and Irene left Golryon. Darrik took the wisdom of Dombus to heart and used it to search out the troubles of the world to right them, and protect as many people as he could.
