chronicler

The title of "chronicler" was first coined by the renowned Qheven in his Details on the Nature of the Almhylean in his invocation to the muses and the goddess Luciel (an unusual opening to what calls itself a factual guide). While a guild has risen to support the profession and mostly the publishing of the works of its members, many follow in the tradition of the the profession's originator in that they are self-appointed and self-taught. Chroniclers are typically itinerent wanderers and to most the only distinction between them and traveling bards is that chroniclers collect (supposedly) factual stories relating to the natural world of Sanzeia. Particularly on the subject of long dead creatures, these stories often are indistinguishable from legends of the great deeds of heroes.   The mark of success for a chronicler is the compellation of their adventurers into a manuscript and the publishing thereof.  Qheven is bay far the exception to the norm in that his works have earned him both fame and income, most chroniclers travel in borderline poverty and strive to make it one day.  Many chroniclers find themselves attached to, or becoming themselves, Adventurers.

Qualifications

Official guild documents state that one need only "the drive to discover, document, and enlighten." In practice however this profession tends to be occupied by the lesser offspring of noble houses who have the time, education, and financial support to make such a lifestyle popular.

Duties

Chroniclers that have yet to achieve a degree of fame capable of supporting their lifestyle, live under a constant pressure to publish or die a slow death in obscurity. Thus for most there is an ever increasing need for new and unique experiences that drive them to the furthest and thus most dangerous corners of Sanezia in the the search for something new. For a theoretically literary profession, there is a surprisingly high mortality rate.
