Chapter 4
General Summary
In this chapter the party guided by the notes recovered from Kelvin Underbarrel investigates the Greenvalley Farm, uncovering more about the hag Lendi, and that she is not working alone: a trio of hags have formed a coven and are menacing Ardrest!
4.1: The party, after resting from their ordeal in Chapter 3, meet in the Decrepit Crab. After a brief conversation with Marti, Saleek and Admoira spilt off to meet with Letitia Kelsey and learn more about her patron (later revealed to be the Auroral Mistress). Back in the Crab, the rest of the party examines Kelvin's notes and finds that Alma Halfhill's disappearance may just be the latest in a string of events leading back 100 years. Although Kelvin was clearly mad, they decide to meet him where he is being held in Ardrest's jail. 4.2:: The party rejoins at the town jail to question Kelvin in the presence of Ansil Ironfist. Kelvin while deranged, does share that, in his mind at least, his actions were for a greater good of protecting Ardrest. The next clue the party finds is the disappearance of the Greenvalley family. Ansil tasks his deputy Flynndak Greenvalley to guide the party to the farm. Kenris voices his concerns that there is something wrong with Marti. 4.3: The party, guided by Flyndak travels to the Greenvalley Farm, an abandoned farm on the north of Ardrest where the land is slowly being taken over by swamp. The farmhouse itself seemed long and suddenly abandoned, except for claw marks upon the front door there was no sign of violence. Saleek found a hidden portrait of a young Kelvin Underbarrel and Malda Greenvalley, but little of value. Pressing on the party finds a flooded tunnel in the home's basement, traversing it the party finds themselves in a circular cavern where two wicker effigies guard a scene not unlike a child's tea party. When the scene was disturbed the constructs attacked! 4.4: Defeating the constructs, the party finds that they seem to be constructed from the bodies of Flyndak's kin and the doll seems to have once belonged to Lendi. Finding another submerged tunnel the party and Flyndak continue onward despite her protests. They emerged into a workshop for the gruesome task of building the effigies they had just faced. The tunnel continued out to an opening to the northern swamp. There the party encountered a vicious fight with bullywugs and giant frogs. Flyndak was swallowed by the beast not once, but twice and was saved by Randal. Their foes vanquished the the party drained and battered, they retreated to the ruins of the Greenvalley farmhouse for an uneasy night's rest. 4.5: The next morning, rested, though somewhat worse for the accommodations, the party returns to the lair beneath the Greenvalley farm. The headed deep into the cavern and found the horrid workshop of Lendi the hag. There they felt as if they were being watched, a fact that was quickly confirmed to them when they found a bloody altar bearing the hag's eye that Saleek had wounded days before in the goblin cave (see Chapter 2). Though the severed appendage the party was connected with the maddened mind of the hag, who taunted them, but in doing so revealed the presence of her "mommy" and "sister" one of which was in Ardrest. As the rage of the hag grew so did the strain on the party, and Kenris was forced to crush the eye before it could do any more damage. Gathering up what loot, and remains they could (for proper burial), the party made their way back to Adrest, realizing that the threat they faced was even greater.
