Auroral Mistress

The Auroral Mistress is a powerful archfae living in a realm connected to but not contained by the forests surrounding Ardrest. She is a patron of the Ardrest Druid's Circle who follow her as if she were a divinity. She has lent her aid to the Frostyear Guardians by directly saving Marti and placing one of her trees within the town of Ardrest.

Realm

"The clearing was seemly lit from all directions by a beautiful sky just showing the tease of sunrise at the horizon, while in the dark above a ever shifting multitude of colors cast light and shadow across the land - the shadows here were not light and dark but constantly shifting shades of color that played across the pale trees and the naked flesh of those gathered within the darkened bowers."
The Auroral maintains her own space, accessible through druidic magic and arboreal gates where tree branches twist into natural arches. At least two such gates are known to exist in the area of Ardrest. It is unknown just how far the Auroral's Mistress's power reaches.   Inside her realm is a place of eternal twilight where the shifting rainbow lights dance across the sky and shadows of multicolored light paint the secluded bowers of her court. Mortals of all races have been invited there into a atmosphere of pleasure and revelry.

Physical Description

Body Features

The Mistress has been described as a beautiful female figure, bearing the racial/species traits of whatever the viewer considers most physically appealing. Dappled light and shadows from the leaves of her bower play continually over her body in a shifting pattern that never quite reveals her bountiful nudity. From her head rises a set of antler like branches, covered in blooming flowers of every color imaginable. Her face is covered in a flawless porcelain mask that is expressionless and serene. The eyes of the mask are dark and empty, the lips full and red, and may move as she speaks, or seemingly with no cause at all.

Facial Features

The Mistress is only ever seen wearing her smooth, white, porcelain mask. What lies beneath the mask, or if it is actually her face, is a matter of fae mystique. Followers of the Mistress have sought to emulate this look by fashioning masks of wood, hide, or bone for themselves. For her druids, the Aroural Mistress blesses these masks as druidic foci.

Special abilities

The lips on the Mistress's mask seem to be capable of moving, but they do not always match the audible words she speaks. She seems to know all languages, as she speaks to her followers in whatever language they are most comfortable with; to the point where multiple observers have heard the same speech each in their own respective language.   The Mistress is also able to communicate telepathically and privately with specific persons, at times while talking verbally to others.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The Frostyear Guardians sought out this powerful fae with the aid of Letitia Cerise and Admoira in response for clearing the woods of necromantic corruption (see Chapter X), the Mistress agreed to help the heroes against the hag, Bergatha. The Mistress granted the Guardian's the favor of her court - something that, while unclear, is of significant meaning to the fae. Giving the heroes a fae blessed apple, she placed young Marti under her protection. Though it was not in the Mistress's power to make the nascent night hag into a normal human, she gave her the power to resist the darkest of her temptations and the control of Bergatha. The heroes then planted the seeds of the apple at the center of the town, where is sprang up into a tree of unnatural beauty and size.   Months later, the mysterious figure of Ardethan would emerge from that same tree just at the time when Hagsfall was facing a crisis of diplomats and assassins. The elf-like man clearly has ties to the Auroral Mistress.

Sexuality

There is no denying that there is a hedonistic and sexual energy to the realm of the Auroral Mistress. Those who spend time in her court, talk about being their pure selves and not being constrained. There is thought that at one time the Mistress was perhaps a primitive fertility spirit.

Morality & Philosophy

Fae morality in Sanzeia is a never-ending topic of debate. Fae morality's intersection with normal morality seems to be circumstantial at best. Additionally they are bound by a complex social system of multiple courts, hierarchies, and social traditions. All of which, to a mortal, makes them appear as capricious and at times immoral beings.   The Auroral Mistress seems to place all things relating to fertility, life, and enjoyment as "good." Things relating to undeath are "bad."
