Basic Information

Anatomy

Selkies' natural form is centurion in nature, with their upper resembling a fur covered human and their lower body resembling a seal. Their fur is patterned with spots that run along their back, arms and face. Selkies' hair is often a similar colour to their fur. Two hairs in their eyebrows are long and prominent and have the same use as whiskers. Common Selkie are 6 - 8 ft long in their normal form and 5 -7 ft tall in human form but some heritages are smaller.

Genetics and Reproduction

Selkie pregnancys are often longer then a humans being on avrage being around 10 months, for the last month of this pregnency the mother loses the ability to transform out of their natural form. Selkie are compleatly capable of having children with other Ancestorys although the centorion gene of Selkies are very strong and every child of a Selkie will have the centorion body plan as their natural form. A Selkie child born to a mother of another Ancestory are born in their land form and the first time they are bathed they transform into their natural form.

Growth Rate & Stages

Selkie are compleatly dependent on there famaliy units. Selkie children will begin swiming at around the age of 3 weeks and at the age of 4 years old they often get the ability to change his into their land form. A Selkie will reach adulthood at 18 years old and will reach their physicall peak at 28 years old and at 50 years old most Selkies health begins to decline. A Selkie will most often die of natural causes around 100 years old.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

Selkie are traditionally polygamous forming large family units consisting of 2-4 males and 6-16 females. These family units will communally take turns looking after the children had in the family, treating all children equally no matter who birthed them. Other Ancestry's can join these polygamous relationships. Selkie are fine to have a monogamous marriage to those of other Ancestry's as they understand their traditions are not common and may put others off. In exceedingly rare cases two Selkie might decide to marry monogamously to each other, when they decide to do this they perform a ritual in which for 8 full hours one of them must stay under water with their only source of air being mouth to mouth with their partner.
Selkie Humanoid

Society

Selkie society is usually based around large bodies of water, with them usually taking the role of fishermen in coastal cities with other ancestry. Selkie are traditionally polygamous but females will only raise one child at a time which means that most families of Selkie will consist of one-three males and up to 15 females. As these families consist of multiple males they will all take care of every child equally even if it's not theirs where the females will help the others with their children but her own will take priority. Sometimes a Selkie will marry manogululy to those of other races as they understand their traditions are not common. Selkies have very powerful voices. This has led Selkie Culture to be very musical and oral, most of their traditions and legends have not been written down making their origin almost a complete mystery.

Alignment and Religion

Many Selkies are kind folk that will help those that they can but they will not go completely out their neck to help people they do not know so they tend to be the more neutral alignments. Selkies often will praise local Water and Wind spirits for good halls on their fishing trips and in return will give sacrifices and only take enough to not destabilise the ecosystem.

Adventurers

Selkie will more often become sailors or pirates than adventures as their love for water makes them stay near large bodies of water. The few Selkie who do decide to become inland travellers, are often motivated by the wonder of exploring what their family doesn't know.
