The Broken Wastes

The Broken Wastes was a land of craggy, shattered rocks and random cliff sides. Thousands of things there could obstruct the sunlight, and thousands more never even knew what the sun was, like the creatures living in the network of cavernous tunnels beneath it all. If any plants grew, they were mosses and lichens, or some sort of small shrub that was dormant most years. Indistinguishable sounds were bouncing and echoing off every scraped surface as the far too distant sun was beginning to set.
Known by many different names, the Wastes are an aptly named area of dry, grey stone. No cities have ever formed here, no families have ever lived here, and all who enter it do so only out of desperation, and never stay for too long.

Fauna & Flora

Nothing natural is able to survive here for very long. Most of the creatures are supernatural, preternatural beings. Bothrios, the web-spinner, is one such creature. He was a spider monster, present during the creation of the Wastes, and had great influence over the forces of fate and consequence. Because of him and his brother, Loxoceles,

History

It is thought to be one of the oldest formations in the world, and so is fraught with myth and legend. Some say that at the center of it is where a fallen angel crashed into the ground, betrayed by the creator god. Some say that it is the home of massive monsters who make the land inhospitable to keep other creatures out. Others still say that it was once the epicenter of a massive earthquake, where an abyssal god of the deep burst out and consequently vanished.   The rest of its history is equally clouded. No one except a handful of individuals have ever attempted to make a life in this area. The land is fallow and dry, and no animals except monsters are said to live there. It is entirely inhospitable to most life, and difficult for larger creatures to travel. The most famous individual to have lived there is one of legend: the Wasted King, so named ironically, and said to be long dead.
