Plaguebearers

Both righteous doctors and mad alchemists, the Plaguebearers are the clerical force of the God Turos. While Turos sleeps, they work to cure disease and care for those who may not care for themselves. However, when Turos awakes, when the signs are there, they serve the Blight. Whatever the symptoms, the Blight is a divine plague and the Plaguebearers must invite the Blight into their bodies, and let Turos take control of the natural order for a little while.   This doesn't make them incredibly popular.

Mythology & Lore

When Turos walked the earth, as the plaguebearer's say, he would touch very few things. For when he touched the water, it would putrid and sour, wheb he would touch the trees, they would wither and make only poison fruit. When he touched the birds, they would lay no eggs, the cows would grow boils and no, he could never touch a person, he would never touch a person. One day however, the impossible happened. He was standing on a hill, the grass had turned tan and crunchy, the tree over him had lost all its leaves. That was when a young man came to him, an orchard keeper. The orchard keeper knew who he was walking to, but he didn't care, he wanted to know the stories that Turos would tell. Turos didn't speak to the man, no matter what he said. So, the orchard keeper began to sing, he would sing about the field and dales, the trees and sky. When he stopped, Turos, had fallen asleep. The orchard keeper laughed and slept next to him under the setting sun.   Turos awoke first, the orchard keeper, laying in his lap, not a breath left in his body. Turos wept and as his tears fell on the orchard keeper's face, the body fell away and seeped into the ground, into every microscopic bacteria, into the very bones of the earth, so that the keeper could never be forgotten by the world. Turos walked again, but he had slept once, for the first time and now he desired it again. The more he walked, the more he tired and he would sleep again. The story of the orchard keeper began to spread, thus, whenever Turos was spotted, all the singers could be found surrounding him, keeping him asleep with their song.   It is said that the first Plaguebearers were those who stayed in the villages while the other sang. They got very good at combating the effects of Turos' presence.

Divine Origins

After the death of the orchard keeper, the spread of disease became rampant and most terrible when Turos was present. These people eventually were associated with Turos as they would follow him to combat the diseases as soon as possible. This didn't make them very popular and eventually, a few of the more combat focused members became the Order of the Raven, protecting their clerical brothers. Once the gods vanished from the earth, it was still the duty of the Plaguebearers to find disease and eradicate it when they could.   However as time went on, they began to see the signs of Turos once more, awakened from sleep. There was a schism, those who wanted to prevent the plague by wiping out the population and those that would just let the plague run its course. The survivors agreed that they could only let the will of Turos decide who should live and die.
