Summer Camp Prep 2026

Summer Camp 2026 Prep

Boy oh boy aren't I nervous, this'll be my first time taking part in a WorldAnvil Challenge! I have been very relaxed with the time I've spend on my 'Sanctuary' project, I am excited to take part in the community!

I've only pledged to complete the Bronze tier, but I will push myself to try and achieve more during the challenge!

Week 1 - Love

I am easing myself in and only going to do 1 prompt this week (I may come back to it and add more if I'm feeling extra spry!)

Rolled 4! Decided to go with 'Create some articles to get a feel for my world'!

Given the 'Love' prompt, I've thought a lot about how people celebrate love. Obviously there is love in the traditional/intimate sense between individuals, but how would a civilization celebrate love? In the real world there are celebrations like (Valentines Day), taking inspiration from that Most likely in the form of a public holiday/celebration. Since the region I'm focusing on is a sect of human society, breaking away from 'Old World' beliefs and religions, they do not celebrate in religious revery.

'The Festival of Highfyre'

This yearly celebration (during the summer solstice) is a celebration of passion, romance and ambition. People Journey to Sanctuary's capitol to indulge in parties and parades. It is customary for the members of the Council to bring gifts for the people (food, drink, clothes, fineries and invention).

Travelling performers come and host plays, circus acts are common to see. Every year performers tell 'The Free City', a retelling of Sanctuary's founding and development. The play is popular as it evolves each year to include current events and progress in Sanctuary.

Week 2 - Growth

My area of focus will be the main setting of my story, The 'Free City of Man', Sanctuary.

Rolled 4 (again)!

I am choosing to 'Create an article about my area of focus'. Since I have already made an article about Sanctuary's ruling government (Sanctuary High Council), I will add to it and discuss the history of Sanctuary itself, showing how the refugee's that formed Sanctuary and they're importance of growing out of a reigning monarchy structure.

To push myself a little more, I rolled again and Rolled 2!

I have added a 'List of Concepts I'd like to explore' (within the 'Sanctuary History' article) that I'd like to develop, the main point I'd like to develop is the branches in the High Council, what they're called, what they're responsible for, who are the key figureheads and how their internal politics interact.

I'm sure you can name a number of books that focus on the internal struggle of politics between noble houses (ala Game of Thrones, Dune, etc.).But that's what I enjoy about those books.

A theme that I wish to convey with this project is in a world of dangerous magic and wonderful sights, how do a select few vie for influence and power among themselves, how do they contrast with the regular citizens who just want to live simple lives and our main characters who undergo a journey and 'evolve' past humanity (and how do they lose themselves in the process).

Week 3 - Loss

Rolled 1! Which asks me to describe 'My typical creative process and routine'. I'm pretty knew to creative writing in a serious manner like this, so my 'process' is not nearly as romantic as sitting in front of a typewriter in a satin robe.

My process is... messy. It is still very much developing, but so far whenever I think of a concept I would like to add or explore (usually nuggets of inspiration are waggled loose when consuming other forms of media) I add it to my ever-growing 'List of things!'. I will eventually get around to adding things from this list into the world, but still lacking some key worldbuilding features (like political systems, infrastructure and cultural hallmarks), I am reluctant to add any of it right now as I feel it would add a ton of unnecessary bloat with no connecting threads.

I am currently writing this from a BnB in Eyemouth Scotland! Having a wonderful week away with my family so I get to mark off 'Go for a walk', as I have been on plenty for one holiday :)

Upon reading the prompt, I am immediately drawn to the idea of a 'lost civilization', and I have the perfect article to expand on.

All across my world there are shadows and temples to 'The Ancients' dotted about. They are a long gone race shrouded in mystery. Responsible for strange, magic powered machines and vast labyrinthine temples. The greatest mystery however, is their disappearance, named "The Grand Exodus".

Unfortunately this isn't the best week for me to sit down and write a lot for this round of prompts. So I will remedy this by taking up some extra tasks in prior weeks!

Now! for this weeks roll...

Week 4 - Family

Rolled 4! I choose to 'Prepare a worldbuilding playlist', I don't tend to listen to music while I write, instead preferring long-form youtube videos or podcasts. I've recently started listening to 'The Magnus Protocol', which I am thoroughly enjoying and recommend!

As an attempt at staying productive, I have also taken it upon myself to 'Prepare my writing space'. When at home I work at my computer desk, so I've made an effort to clear off the mountains of random junk I've accumulated (nicknack and gizmo enjoyers will understand the struggle).

Referring back to Week 2, I mentioned a 'List of Concepts I'd like to explore', in that list I wrote "Regions within Sanctuary and their ruling houses". Whilst I am not confident enough to provide several detailed descriptions of houses. I will write an Article defining the in world 'Houses', what they are, how they are established and any reference details I may refer back to when writing them proper!

Optional Tasks

Week 1 - Love themed Settlement

Whilst not a 'settlement' I have written an article describing the 'Bloody Lovers', a stretch of grassland that holds cultural significance due to it's wartime history.
