18th Jan Session
General Summary
The journey North from Stonetooth was dull and difficult, but mainly dull. We managed to start out traveling in daytime, much to the horror of our reluctant guide, but soon he had us moving at night. I believe the sun hurt his poor little evil eyes. My academic work has had to be put on hold for now, for we extinguished all unnecessary light on the request of our guide. He looked worried, clearly the Evil Eye Tribe do not ‘completely’ dominate their own territory, that been said with the wolf rider escort we picked up on route it’s probably the safest journey we’ve made in this valley, the irony was not lost on us.
I will never claim to have a military mindset but those in my group who do, pointed out just how well organised the Evil Eye tribe are, not like the Orcs we’ve faced before. I worry that our Rakin overloads may have underestimated them.
And just as I was started to respect the evil eye, we arrive at the most ridiculous scull shaped gate! Like that would impress or scare anymore… or so I thought, Magiar is the most nervous I’ve ever seen him. I thought for a minute Kurog would make him wait outside!
Inside the gate we had a few minutes of who’s got the biggest balls between Kurog and the Gate guard, which I believe went in our favour. With formalities out of the way we were led down through a large well carved dwarven tunnel, from the Second Period I believe. The tunnel eventually opened out onto a wide platform and an impressive view of a vast caldera, in the centre of which stood a tower surround by what appeared to be a large Orc camp. I did not recognise the style or construction of the tower, clearly neither dwarven nor orc.
Obviously the King F'yar made us wait, I would have been shock if he hadn’t. It gave us the opportunity to explore a bit (and by us I mean Drogon , with a little magical assistance obviously). The Camp proved to be smaller than it at first appeared with most of the tents on the near side of the tower, Drogon found little else of interest until he arrived at the tower. Even without magical ability he could feel an aura of power radiating from the stonework near the base. I could feel the stickiness of the air even through the link. Drogon very sensibly decided not to climb the walls, hopeful I hid my shock. It was then suggested by Thorg that I go investigate said tower solo, like that was going to happen!
Night fall and I believe we have now set a record for the greatest number of days without killing something or someone! Oh and we were summoned to see the king. On route we got a good view of the tower glowing with magical energy. Stronger at the bottom then fading towards the top. I wonder what’s inside?
We arrive back at the platform to see the king holding court, dispensing justice and showing off to his guests. Interestingly Steps that led down from the platform had appeared since we were last here, dwarven magic I believe, hopefully I will get a closer look. Above us loomed the wyvern, a vast ugly creature, although could be a useful mode of transport. I shall ponder this.
Our Audience with the king started as expected with some more who’s got the biggest balls between Kurog and the King. I’m still alive so I’m guessing it must have been successful enough. Then it was onto the deal. Surprisingly despite the king playing coy at first, it was actually a fairly easy sell, Kurog pretty much had him but for one small issue, the other tribes rebelling in the king’s absence.
Note to self: Now would have been a great time for me not to have a bright idea!
Kurog probably could have talked him round but I had to make a suggestion. Had we not been mind linked I could have thought through the pros and cons, but no I had to suggest the king round up all of the tribes and take the opportunity to use them as fodder. The King hushed us up cleared his court and hurried us down the magical stairs (which closed behind us, whisper smooth, sadly I was too distracted by the ingenuity that I missed the activation command).
By this point we knew we had the king on the hook, he jumped at the idea, it was the perfect solution for him…. But maybe not so much for our Prince. Now we are taking 3000 of the best Orc warriors into the heart of civilisation.
The King has agreed to only attack agreed upon targets (Baby Qual won’t know what’s hit him!), but it’s a safe bet that won’t last long. Looks like we are going to have to clear a path all the way to Rank. Of course, once there, how much harm could they do? If prompted properly!
After the audience, I messaged our contact to forewarn the civilians at Mordburg. It’s not their fault they are ruled by a bugbears fetid bowl movement! I Also messaged Wesloke, he seems the sort that nothing can surprise him, yet we still manage it. Not sure he’s that pleased with our over achievement but is going to make the necessary arrangements. Looks like we’ll double cross F’yar. Obviously, he’ll be looking to double cross us too but hopeful he’ll be too busy double crossing the other tribes first. What ever happens it’s going to be interesting.
Now we have three days to wait for the Evil Eye to mobilise. Three days and a tower with who knows what arcane secrets locked inside.
