Rosa grew up in the heart of San Diablo, Nevada, a city known for its vibrant culture and, increasingly, its superhero presence. Her parents owned a small but popular bakery in the city's Latino quarter. Rosa and her younger brother, Marco, helped in the bakery growing up but Rosa always dreamed of something more. She discovered her powers early, accidentally bending a metal spoon into a knot when she was eight, and spent her childhood trying to control them, often using gymnastics as an outlet.

Lost a crucial gymnastics competition due to a moment of showboating; this taught her the importance of humility. Accidentally super-punched a hole in the gym wall during practice, leading to a week of community service. Once confessed her feelings to a popular girl in middle school, only to be rejected in front of a group of her friends, which left a permanent scar on her self-esteem.
