The Gulf That Hungers is the narrow body of water which separates Hastum from Brukia and the rest of the The Middle Kingdoms.
The waters of the Gulf are treacherous, much of its shoreline covered in jagged reefs and rocky cliffs. The city of Gal-Aralu is the only permanent settlement along its coast, as even its calmer shores are plagued by monstrous creatures from the depths. Sailors consider it to be the realm of Umberlee, the wicked goddess of storms and the dark oceans. Only a fool would venture its waves without the guidance of her priests
Due to its nature, it acts as an effective barrier between the lands of the west and the east. Mounting an expedition along its shores is near suicidal, and many of its smaller islands remain unexplored. Regardless, the Gulf is a valuable waterway and the lifeline of trade for the Jewel of the West.
