The Royal Company of Mapmakers, Cartographers, Surveyors, and Topographists
The oldest continuously running guild in Gashain, the Royal Company of Mapmakers, Cartographers, Surveyors, and Topographists dates back to the early days of the Kingdom of Gashain. It is largely unchanged in its organization, mission, and training resources though of course updated with modern spellcraft, technology and advances in mapmaking.
The guild is concerned with creating and distributing accurate maps of the Republic and the wider world. A secondary function represents property tax assessors for the kingdom. A Standard Map of the Republic is published every year and is the primary concern of the guild. Smaller regional and municipal maps are produced and copied for sale throughout the republic. Many apprentices spend years copying in exact detail the regional and municipal maps for sale in smaller localities before they are allowed to explore and create their own work. Since they work mostly together and largely independently, the Guild functions slightly more like a workers commune rather than a worker protection organization than some of the other guilds. Most work is done 'in-shop' as it were.
