Creating Characters

The following steps explain how to make a Player Character in the Storypath system.

Step 1. Attributes

Creatures have 6 Attributes: Agility, Endurance, Strength, Charisma, Intuition, and Knowledge. You select the value of each Attribute from the following numbers: +2, +2, +1, +1, +0, -1.
You also learn 1 Action of your choice.

Step 2. Background

First, you choose your character’s Background; their role in society. They gain an increase to 2 Attributes, learn an Action, gain an Aspect, and have a choice between some Equipment and Languages.
You also choose their Ancestry; physical traits passed on from their ancestors, gaining them an Aspect and some Items or Languages of your choice. Lastly, you learn the Common Language.

Step 3. Class

Your character’s Class represents their role within the crew and determines what main abilities they have for exploration. Their Class gains them an Action and a Key Aspect. They can then gain any 1 chosen Aspect from the options provided within their Class.

Step 4. Motivations

You choose your character’s Drives; the things that motivate them to go adventuring and stay with their companions.
You then choose a Milestone for them; something that can reasonably happen to them over the course of a few adventures and is related to their Drives. This doesn’t necessarily have to be something that the character wants to happen, but something that you need to happen to your character.
When your character completes a Milestone, they gain a new feature corresponding to what happened to them. This could be:
  • Gaining another Aspect
  • Advancing knowledge of a Language
  • Learning another Action
  • Increasing an Attribute by 1 (to a max. of 4)
