Eimei-shi

Eimei-shi is the capital and largest city of Saharin. It is located on the south coast of Saharin's mainland, on Eimei-ura (The Bay of Eimei).    永明城 is the original Chinese name of the city while it was under Ming rule (14th century). When the Japanese claimed the land in the 17th century, they re-adopted the name but used the Japanese pronunciation. The last character, 城, which means ‘city’ in Chinese, was inconsistently changed to 市, city, or 浦, bay. In modern usage, Eimei-shi means the capital city, but Eimei-ura can mean the city or the bay, whose shoreline is entirely inhabited by the city.   永明城/永明市 means 'city of eternal light.'   In the real world, 永明城 eventually became Vladivostok. Information on the rewritten history that formed Saharin can be found on that page.   Eimei-shi has a population of approximately 0.6 million.
