The Tydoni Lizard War

"We knew going in this wasn't the kind of campaign to brag to your grandkids about. Didn't think it was gonna be one you had to pretend you were off sick for though. Damned lizards."   Rachel Mantini, Tydoni Royal Marines

The Conflict

Prelude

A small uninhabited island off the coast of Tydonia was discovered by magi-geological survery to contain a wealth of previous minerals. This island was unfortunately occupied by a large colony of Kidanza Lizards. Due to their toxic secretions they had to be removed before true mining surveys could take place.

Deployment

A small of the Tydoni Royal Marines were deployed with basic armaments to destroy the extremely fertile lizards and remove all nests.

Battlefield

The uninhabited island was named Plutana after a competition run nationally in Tydoni schools. On the edge of Tydonia's sea territory, it had gone unnoticed for many years until new scientific techniques allowed for deep level surveys. Mainly rocky with some sparse scrubland, it was free of most obstacles.

Conditions

The weather forecast was overcast and cool, ideal conditions for the Tydoni forces as the lizards were known to be sluggish in cooler weather. Unfortunately this turned out to be wrong, as the day was bright and hot.

The Engagement

At 11:15, the Tydoni marines engaged with the first lizard and shot it, killing it instantly. They managed two further lizards before the distress of the actions caused a chain reaction in the other lizards on the island. In their panic they released their natural toxins in the form of a thick and powerful gas. As the toxins were usually released in liquid form, this took the twelve marines by surprise, and they were quickly driven back.   Four were hospitalised for several weeks following exposure. The discovery that the Kidanza Lizards could produce their toxins in gaseous form was of great interest to the scientific community, and the potential mining plans were thrown out as the island became a natural habitat and place of study.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The Tydoni Lizard War remains an excellent internet curiosity as it is both the shortest war in history and the only one primarily against non-sentient beings.
