Purpose / Function

Built to contain huge crowds of worshippers, the temple of Lamia was once a sprawling structure of gleaming white crystalline stone and silver. Worshipped as the goddess of magic, her ancient temple accumulated much wealth and many visitors hoping for power and knowledge.

History

Lamia’s temple might still be a popular destination for tourists and worshippers, given its sturdy construction and magical protection from degredation. Alas, the introduction of the Creeping Forest drove her followers away from the grandest of her temples. Trees sprouted through the massive complex, ruining the fine stonework and leaving the silver to tarnish from lack of upkeep.
The temple was abandoned when the Creeping Forest got too close for comfort, meaning that things were left behind. Priests of Lamia relocated and their descendants comprise many of the subsequent cultists dedicated to reviving Lamia and bringing about Her Will, whatever that might ultimately be. Modern day cultists suspect that the old temple contains many artefacts which may allow them to bring about Lamia’s Will, but the Creeping Forest is dangerous and so very easy to get lost in. Expeditions sent to retrieve old artefacts have mostly been failures, with few ever managing to return, let alone locate any objects of magical or ritual significance. For this reason, many cultists have given up any hopes of reaching the old temple, instead turning their attentions to pleasing Lamia by upholding her legacy in other ways.
It is hoped by the few followers she has left that if Lamia comes back, she could well use her magic to overturn the magical curse causing the Creeping Forest and allow the cultists to retake the old temple, but many of the younger generation have grown jaded with this idea, especially given the harsh methods the cultists believe would be needed to bring about Lamia’s return.
