Grimloth

The Grimlot lived in the Frozen Wastes the southern most lands of Leatis. Close to Barence the Crimson mountain range cuts off all travel north save that along the coastline.

History

Living simple lives on the Frozen Wastes the Grimloth took their name from an old fey term for "strength from tribulations". These men and women fished and hunted though when it proved poorly, they raided their northern neighbors aboard ships crafted from the hardy woods that survive in the snow. The plentiful natural minerals the Wastes held many veins of gold and iron for commerce and war but food was always scare. What few villages that lived in the waste rarely worked together but almost never raided each other seeing kinship in those who lived among the Wastes.
With the harsh waters around Leatis there was always hope of finding passage through the Crimson Mountains besides greatest pass owned by the Kingdom of Scarlett and when the raiders found the some passage through the Crimson mountains they raided the Dragonlords for their food and luxuries. As Scarlett became stronger tribes close to the mountains swore fealty to the king giving the Kingdom iron for their armies. The Grimlot needed to band together if they wished to survive and thus the first conclave was gathered. The Jarls, leaders of their respective tribes, all gathered at the great meeting place that would become the capitol, Grimholt.
They argued as to who could lead but eventually it was not the Jarls but the Baba Utoy the Witch of the Wastes who helped decide who would lead. Long thought to be a myth Baba Utoy was said to be a hag who would curse the prideful and devour disobedient children. Proving her power and showing mercy to the assembled Jarl's Baba Utoy sent the the men to hunt across a fortnight and whomever returned with a greater beast would lead the tribes. But nothing is simple with Baba Utoy as the men began their hunt the greatest snow storm ever seen before stuck Grimholt. The storm lasted for weeks as many men including prospective Jarls fell to the dangers and power of the storm. When the storm finally ended and the fortnight had passed the remaining tribes brought their spoils to prove themselves. Many had felled a bear or wolf but it was the Jarl Justine the Wise who had taken her men and slew a Frost Drake. A few men complained that it was not Justine but her men who had slew the Drake but Baba Utoy silenced them, "Any Jarl themselves could be strong but one who would lead must be able to use not just their strength but those of our people."
And so the Grimloth banded together under the banner of High Jarl Justine. Under her rule the tribes grew stronger and began to amass more wealth to trade. Their greatest trading partner were the tribes of Uvanold in Barence. While Barence was far harsher then the Frozen Wastes the continent to the south reaped a greater bounty lending aid to the Grimloth in return for steel and gold.
High Jarl Justine made a deal with the Warlord of the Uvanold, for their aid in weakening Scarlett the Grimlot nation would supply the Uvanold with the gold needed to purchase the services of the mercenary armies of Scarlett, The Uvanold would take control of their continent just as the Grimloth would their own continent.
