Mountain Syrec are a horned and winged horse-like creature with feathered tails that is designed to assist in steering in flight and and their wings help them soar to the highest of peaks. Both males (stallions) and females (mares), have corkscrew antlers that are anywhere between 1 - 3 feet in length; males having longer antlers than females. These antlers are used for protection and as a way to attract mates. They have short ears and are known for their round convex noses. Their sharp, cloven hooves help them maneuver the craggy cliffs and peaks of the Ko'ten mountain range. Mountain Syrec appear bulkier than other subspecies, but they are actually quiet narrow bodied and nimble. The bulky apperance is due to its thick curly hair and mane that helps keep warm in the higher altitude.

Social

Mountain Syrec live in a flock that is typically all male or all female ranging between 20 to 75 adult members. The female herd is typically larger. During breeding season, the males will seperate and search for females to join his harem. Males are highly protective of their females and will fight challanging males. The males will stay with their harem until just after the birthing season before leaving the females to care for the young and join back up with the other males.   Adolescent males stay with the female flock until they reach the age of two years before they are chased off by the females. The young male will then seek out the flock of males and will stay with them until breeding season. The young males typically do not engage in the breeding season fights and will stay in a small flock until the older males return. Males will not breed until their fourth or fifth year as they are smaller than most males and their antlers are shorter still.

Domestication & Uses

Mountain Syrecs have been domesticated by Carnala miners in the high peaks of Ko'ten and Hassn'Saual. They are used to carry precious mined items, supplies, and any injured up and down the mountain. Some domesticated mountain syrec have been selectively bred to have shorter wings that do not allow for them to fly, but they are extremely nimble alone the trails up into the mountains. Due to this breeding however, there have been signs of wing deformities in wild flocks that are local to the miners flock that have bred with these unique breed. This has led to and increase of foal abandonment and a decrease in population.
