Lantern Moth

Lantern Moths have only been found a few places in Rysidor. In the caves of the underground Da'ja Desert; Oasis of the Sun, the Dybbuk Woods and a few places in the Ethgravi Forest. Like the Etheri Wolves and Lantern Cats, the Lantern Moths are sensitive to the Etheri in the world and will typically migrate to the areas with high concentration.

Appearance

In the daylight they look white and fluffy. At night or in low light, they have spots that glow bioluminescent in a array of colors.

Life Cycle

  • Once the female lay eggs, it's approximately 21 days for development. After hatching the larvae will live on the same tree until the pupae stage. They are covered in fine hair that gives them a fluffy appearance. As a defense mechanism they will vibrate and release the fine hairs that will irritate the eyes and sensitive skins of any predator that may try to eat it.

  • The development of the pupae is determined by the source of the Etheri that was within the plant that they consumed in the larvae stage. The higher the Etheri the faster the development from pupae to moth. The pupae creates a silk cocoon that can be many different colors.

  • The moth is when it's at most colorful stage. It's wings and body have spots and stripes of bioluminescent. The coloring comes from its diet from the nectar of lantern lilies.

Domestication & Uses

The silk cocoons are used to create beautiful clothing and decorative rugs and tapestries. These silks are already colored, have very vibrant hues, and are a very rare and pricey item. Some hunters utilize the moths for tracking creatures with high etheri concentration. Other cultures see the moths as more of an omen, and seek to avoid the places where the moths travel so that they could be undisturbed by powerful wildlife.
