Morozko and the two Maids
The legend of Morozko's meeting with the two maidens.
Summary
Once there was a woman who had both a daughter of her own, whom she loved, and a step-daughter, whom she hated. One day, the woman ordered her husband to take her stepdaughter out into the winter fields and leave her there to die. When Morozko found her shivering alone under a tree; she was polite and kind to him, so he gave her a Casket full of beautiful things and fine garments. After a while, the stepmother sent the father to retrieve the girl's body to be buried, but he found her, rich, beautiful and happy.
When the stepmother saw what her stepdaughter had brought back, she ordered her husband to take her own daughter out into the fields. Unlike before, this child was rude to Morozko, and he froze her to death with the Touch of Winter. When the husband went out to bring her back, he found the child cold dead.
