Tabac

A wild herb, native to the hills of Auregalion, tabac is a common sight in societies touched by the Regalia, who popularised the use of the herb in culinary and domestic domains.   Prepared easily by taking advantage of the unique heating systems of the Regals, tabac can be produced by anyone with enough wealth to own a traditional stone manor. Citizens fortunate enough to be able to prepare the herb often prepare far more than they need, choosing to donate it as an act of charity, or to exchange it for coin or barter.   When properly dried, tabac is used widely in cooking, where it is known colloquially as silverleaf. Powdered tabac is used as a seasoning to impart a sweet and mellow flavour to food. When made into a paste and applied to cooking meats, silverleaf imparts a bitter flavour and stains the food grey.   The smoke of tabac leaves is sweet and has a calming effect on the mind, and it has found great popularity in the common folk of the Regalia, though it has the unfortunate side effects of slowly tinting the flesh grey and causing a stubborn cough. These side effects are considered unsightly in high society, and are simply accepted in low society.   It takes 8-10 days to properly dry tabac leaves, and a single bush will yield about 200 grams of the leaf, enough for 20 single doses of the relaxant.
