Spellclash

One of the most popular sports in Veltios is Spellclash, a 1 vs 1 spellcaster dueling competition. The most powerful and flashy competitors draw huge crowds into the stadiums to watch epic battles of sorcery and wizardry. 
The rules of a Spellclash match are as follows.

• Each participant will be adorned with an enchanted pendant that blocks the next 50 incoming damage from magical sources. When one of these breaks, a winner is declared.
• Non-magical attacks are not allowed. Not only do offenders automatically lose their match, intentional or egregious offenses can result in players being banned for life and stripped of any titles.
• If a participant continues to attack once the match is over, they automatically lose the match and may be banned from participating in future events. 

The rules are simple, but there's more to it than rules. The large stadium and roaring crowd play a huge part in participants' performance, so crowd favorites often end up being more successful. The very best combatants are not always the most powerful spellcasters, but tend to be both powerful and flashy.
