Water Mulo

Water Mulos are common throughout Minuba, Kiimati, and Zenosha. They serve as pack beasts for rural communities. They also serve as cheap sources of water, with farmers squeezing water out of their beasts for easy distribution for their villages and towns. It is rumored that they originally crossed over from Minuba and multiplied throughout the world. Of course, Zarmudan Priests and Missionaries dispute this idea.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Water Mulo is a large, thick furred and horned creature. At first glance it is slightly bigger than a buffalo but this is not because it is a fat, thickly muscled creature. The name is quite literal, as a person can easily squeeze water out of the Water Mulo. When unsqueezed they are as solid as any animal and make for great use as pack animals.

Ecology and Habitats

Water Mulos can thrive anywhere since they are so common throughout the world. If there is anywhere they may struggle, it is in deserts where the lack of water is a concern. Still, their ability to carry immense quantities of water ensures that they and their owners do not lack for water in hot, dry climates.   Water Mulos are a docile bunch. Their horns can grow very large and it is not unusual for a Mulo feeling stressed, scared, or angry to begin swinging its horns around. This is more to scare off predators than actually going in to fight. It is dangerous though, as the horns are more than capable of goring animals and people.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They exist off a light diet of grass and thus need very little maintenance. They do require copious amounts of water in order to stay hydrated. Once fed a Water Mulo can contain up to thirty gallons of water.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Water Mulos are used as pack animals and for water storage. For rustic communities, they are the only transportation with the exception of horses and mules. Mulos can be preferred, as they require so little to maintain and can travel long distances without getting tired.   A docile creature, certain towns and villages during the War of Zealots and Martyrs substituted horses for Water Mulos as mounts. Mulos were used to carry cannons, wagons, and even served as an awkward replacement for heavy cavalry.
"We received reinforcements from some of the surrounding villages. Those mayors and chiefs pledged their loyalty to the cause. We were not expecting the kinds of reinforcements though. Sure we got some poorly trained farmers and militia using their prized handguns that were practical three thousand years ago, but we got some folk riding the Water Mulos into battle. Can you believe that?"   "How did that go for them," Jarren asked.   "Surprisingly well. You need two men to ride a Mulo. One with a weapon, like a spear or a gun. Then there is the actual rider."   "Won't a Mulo buck someone off? They don't like loud noises."   "Not when the rider is poking their butts with a stick."
